29 www .gate wa y .com P re v enting static electricity discharge The components inside y our server are extremely sens i tiv e to static electricity , also known as electrostatic discharge (E SD). Before working with server components, follow these guidelines: ■ T urn off the server , then unplug the power cords and all other cab les.
30 ww w .g at eway . com Opening the ser v er case Because the compon ents inside yo ur server are extremely sensitive to static el ectricity , make sure that you follow the in structions at the beginning of this c hapter to avoid static electricity damage.

33 www .gate wa y .com ■ If you are connec t ing t w o P A T A drives to the cable, con nect the middle cable connector to the slave dr ive and connect the end cable conn ector to the master (boot) drive. ■ Y ou may need to c onfi gure the drives you inst all using the BIOS Setup utility .

35 www .gate wa y .com 5 Remove the shield for the bay int o which you are installing the new drive. 6 If you are replacing a drive, disconnect the drive cables. 7 If there is a shipping thumbscrew installed nex t t o t he d rive release latch, remove the thumbscrew .
36 ww w .g at eway . com 11 Slide the new drive into the drive bay . 12 Move the release latch to the right about ¼ inch (6 mm). 13 Align the drive’ s screw holes with the release latch’ s locking tabs.
37 www .gate wa y .com 14 Slide the drive release latch toward the front of the case until the lock i con is v i sible. 15 Follow the instructions in the driv e’ s doc ument a ti on to connect the drive cables. 16 If you removed the front cover , replace it.

41 www .gate wa y .com Installing memor y For be st performance, we recommend th at mo dules be installed in identica l pairs. Use 184-pin sing le-sided or double-sid ed DD R Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMM) (DDR266/333/ 400). DIMMs may also be labele d as PC2100/PC270 0/PC3200.

43 www .gate wa y .com Installing a PCI e xpans ion car d A PCI expansion ca r d (sometimes c alled an add-in card ) is a card used in the server to add functionality to the system. Use the following proc edure to replace, add, or reseat an expa nsion c ard.
44 ww w .g at eway . com 5 While holding the re t e n tion cover open, remo ve the expansion card. Y ou c a n slightly seesaw the card end-to-end to loosen th e card , but do not bend the card sideways. 6 While holding the retention cover open, press the n ew card into the expansio n slot.
45 www .gate wa y .com Replacing a processor This server is compatible with Intel ® Pentium 4 ® or Celeron ® processors. The ser ver automatically detects the processors each time you turn on the server . Whenev er you insta ll a new processor , you should first install the most curre n t version of the BIOS.
46 ww w .g at eway . com 6 Remove the he at sink. 7 Press down on the processor locking lever , pu sh it slightly away from the pr o cessor , then rotate the lever stra ight up to release the processor . 8 Remove t he old processor . 9 Install the new processor into the processor slot.
47 www .gate wa y .com Replacing the p o w er supply T o replace the power supply: 1 Follow the instructions in “P r ev enting static electricity disc harge” on page 29 . 2 Follow the instructions in “O pening the server cas e” on page 30 . 3 Disconnect the power supply cables from all comp onents, noting their lo cations and orientation.
48 ww w .g at eway . com 5 W hile supporting the power supp ly with your hand, slide the power supp ly toward the front of the case, th e n ou t toward the bottom of the case. 6 Install the new power supply , then press th e retention clip back against the c a se.
49 www .gate wa y .com Replacing the CMOS battery If the server clock does not keep time or the settings in the BIOS Setup utility are not saved when you turn off the server , replace the CMOS batter y with an equivalent battery . T o replace the battery: 1 Print the appendix for “BIOS S e t tings” on pa ge 83 .
