1-1 Chapter 1 Getting Star ted The Stylistic 2300™ pen tablet is a high-perfor mance, pen-based computer that is designed to support Win d ow s 95, Windows 98, or Wi ndows NT. This chapter provides an overview of the S tylistic 2300 pen tablet and its features.

2-1 Chapter 2 Using the Sty listic 2300 P en T ablet This chapter covers the fundamental concepts, basic system operation and use, and system fu nctions of the Stylis tic 2300 p en tablet. You s hould famil iarize your self with this information befo re you attempt to opera te the system.
2-2 Using th e Styli stic 230 0 Pen Table t • Off state All system functions ar e turned of f to conserve power . The system does not respon d to the pen or oth er input. The system boots at the next system power -on. Note: Th e sys tem c ons umes th e same amou nt of power whet her it is i n Sus pend-t o-Disk mode or the Off state.
Starting th e Pen Ta blet 2-3 Star tin g the P en T a b le t 2 Follow the proc edu re below to start the Stylistic 2 300 pen tablet. Before you begin, confirm that th e system is in the Off state.
2-4 Using th e Styli stic 230 0 Pen Table t Shutting Down the System 2 Follow these steps to shut dow n and turn off yo ur system: 1. If system operation has been suspended, r esume system operation. See “Resuming System Operation” later in th is chapter for details.
Suspendi ng Sys tem Opera tion 2-5 The Power icon either flashes or is not displayed when system operation is suspended, depending on how your system is configured.
2-6 Using th e Styli stic 230 0 Pen Table t • If the battery pack c harge dr ops to the Low-Battery W arning level while the system is runnin g, the sy stem will beep periodical ly . If this occurs, sus pend system operation, shut down the syst em, or attach an external power source, such as the AC adapter , to the pen tablet.
Using Hotpads 2-7 Note that power to severa l system components must be restor ed before system operation r esumes. Allow suf ficient time for system opera tion to resume befo re attempting to use the system. If your system us es Suspend-to-Disk mode, it will take longer to re sume operation as com pared to using Suspend-to-RAM mode.
2-8 Using th e Styli stic 230 0 Pen Table t • Display Select hotpad This hotpad allows you to choose the pen tablet display scr een, an external video monitor , or both as the selected system display(s). The pen tablet display scr een appears blank when an external m onitor alone is selected.
Using the Pe n 2-9 Note: Y ou may need to tap the p en tip against the screen initially to turn on the pen. The pen turn s off automat ically to co nserve th e pen ba tt ery if no t u sed for a peri od of approximately 3 minutes. Here are some hints that m ay help you use the pen more ef fectively.
2-1 0 Using th e Styli stic 230 0 Pen Table t Chargi ng t he Bat ter y P ac k 2 The Stylistic 2300 battery pack can be charged while it is installed in the pen tablet. To do so: 1. Conn ect a DC power sour ce, such as the AC adapter , to the DC input connector on the pen tablet.
Removing and Insta lling the Battery Pack 2-11 • The Stylistic 2300 batt ery pack uses lithiu m ion battery cells which ha ve no “memory ef fect.” Y ou do not n eed to dischar ge the battery pack befor e you begin char ging.

A fully charged battery pack can run the system under normal use in most applications for approximat ely 4 hours.
Modem C onne ction 2-13 • Shut down the sy stem if you won’t be using th e system for an extended period of time. • Use power ma nagement timeo uts (accessible through the BIOS s etup) to help y ou conserve power automatically .
2-1 4 Using th e Styli stic 230 0 Pen Table t PC Card Slots 2 The Stylistic 230 0 pen tablet has two PC Ca rd slo ts that allow yo u to install up to tw o Type II PC Cards using both sl ots 1 and 2, or a single Type III PC Card usin g slot 1 only. There are two ways to install a PC card, depen ding upon the card con figuration.
3-1 Chapter 3 Care and Maintenance This chapter gives you pointers on ho w to care for and m aintain your Stylistic 2300 pen tablet. Prot ecting the Di spla y Screen 3 The Stylistic 2300 pen tablet is designed to provide you with years of service. Using a screen protector will help ensure that the screen remains as clear as possible.
3-2 Care a nd Mai ntenance 2. Clean the display screen surface by wiping the screen surface gently using a soft cotton cloth dampened with den atured alco hol. Ensur e that all film has been remo ved fr om the screen befor e applying a new scr een protector .
Protecting the Styl istic 23 00 Pen Tablet in Harsh Env ironment s 3-3 Prot ecting the St ylist ic 2300 P en T a b let i n Harsh En viro nments 3 The Stylistic 2300 pen tablet is designed for use in en vironments where there is no direct exposure to rain, mi st, sprays, dirt, or other abrasive particles.
3-4 Care a nd Mai ntenance Repla cing th e P en Ti p 3 The pen tip is made of a soft plastic material. With use, the pen tip may become worn or may pick up abrasive particles that can scratch the display screen. A damaged or warped tip may not move fr eely, causing unpredictable results when using the pen.
Replacin g the P en Batte ry 3-5 Repla cing the P en Batter y 3 The pen battery has a typical life of about one year unde r normal use. More frequent use will shorten battery life.
3-6 Care a nd Mai ntenance 2. Remo ve the battery fr om the pen barr el. 3. Observing the polarity mark, inse rt a new battery into the pen barr el. (Insert the end of the battery with the negative terminal first.
Calibratin g the Pe n 3-7 To calibrate the pen: 1. In the Control Panel, double-t ap the Pen Configuration icon . Select the Calibration property sheet, then click on Pen Calibration. 2. Position th e Stylistic 230 0 pen tablet as you norm ally would during us e.
