Wireless Router User Guide Dynamic DNS (Domain Name Server) This free service is very usef ul when combined with the Virtual Server feature. It allows Internet users to connect to your Vi rtual Serv ers using a URL, rather than an IP Address. This also solves the problem of having a dynami c IP address.
Advanced Features DDNS Status • This message is returned by the DDNS Server • Normally, this me ssage should be "Update successful" or something similar. This indicates the current IP address was updated on the DDNS server. • If the message is "No host", this indicates the ho st name entered was not allocated to you.
Wireless Router User Guide Advanced Internet Screen This screen allows configuration of all advanced features relating to Internet access. • Comm unication Applicat ions • Special Applications • DMZ • Multi-DMZ An example screen is shown below.
Advanced Features Send incoming calls to This lists the PCs on your LAN. • If necessary, you can add PCs m anually, using the "PC Database" option on the advanced m enu. • For each application listed above, you can choose a destination PC.
Wireless Router User Guide Data - Special Applications Screen Name Enter a descriptive name to identify th is Special Application. Incoming Ports • Type - Select the protocol (TCP or UDP) used when you receive data from the special application or service.
Advanced Features • This allows almost any application to b e used on the "DMZ PC". • The "DMZ PC" will receive all "Unknown" connections and data. • If the DMZ feature is enabled, you must sel ect the PC to be used as the "DMZ PC".
Wireless Router User Guide URL Filter The URL Filter allows you to block access to undesirable Web site • To use this feature, you must define "filter string s". If the "filter string" appears in a requested URL, the request is blocked.
Advanced Features Filter Strings Filter Strings This lists any existing entries. If yo u have not entered any values, this list will be empty. Use the "Delete" and "Delete All" buttons to modify this list as required. Click "Save" when fini shed.
Wireless Router User Guide Define Schedule The schedule can be used for the Access Control and URL Filter features. • Two (2) separate sessions or periods can be defined. • Times must be ent ered using a 24 hr clock. • If the time for a particular day is blank, no action will be performed.
Advanced Features User Groups User Groups are used by the Access Control and the URL Filter features. • Groups are pre-named "Default", "Group 1", "Group 2", "Group 3" and "Group 4", and cannot be renamed.
Wireless Router User Guide Virtual Servers This feature, sometimes called Port Forwarding , allows y ou to make Servers on your LAN accessible to Internet users. Normally, Internet users would not be able to access a server on your LAN because: • Your Server does not have a valid external IP Address.
Advanced Features Figure 43: Virtual Servers Screen This screen lists a num ber of pre-defined Servers, and allows you t o define your own Servers. Details of the selected Server ar e shown in the "Properties" area.
Wireless Router User Guide Defaults This will delete any Servers you h ave defined, and set the pre- defined Servers to use their default port num bers.
Advanced Features It is more convenient if you are using a Fixed IP Address from your ISP, rather than Dynam ic. However, you can use the Dynamic DNS feature, described in the followi ng section, to allow users to connect to your Virtual Servers usi ng a URL, rather than an IP Address.
Wireless Router User Guide MAC Address Also called Network Adapter Address or Physical Address . This is a low-level identifier, as seen from the WAN por t. Normally there is no need to change this, bu t som e ISPs require a particular value, often that of the PC initially used for Internet access.
Advanced Features Login Login Method If your ISP does not use a login m ethod (username, password) for Internet access, leave this at the default value None (Direct connection) . Otherwise, check the document ation from your ISP, select the login m ethod used, and enter the required dat a.
Wireless Router User Guide Copy from PC Inserts the MAC address from y our PC into the MAC address field. You must click "Save" to actually change the address used. Save Save your changes to the Wireless Router. Cancel Reverse any changes made since the last "Save".
Chapter 7 Adv a nc ed Ad m in i st r at ion This Chapter explains the settings avail able via the "Administration" section of the menu. 7 Overview Normally, it is not necessary to use these scr eens, or change any settings.
Wireless Router User Guide Config File This feature allows you to downl oad the current settings from the Wireless Router, and save them to a file on your PC. You can restore a previously-downloaded configurat ion file to the Wirele ss Router, by uploading it to the Wirele ss Router.
Advanced Administration Logs The Logs record various types of activit y on the Wireless Router. This data is useful for troubleshooting, but enabling all l ogs will generate a large amount of data and adversely affect performance.
Wireless Router User Guide Timezone Select the correct Timezone for y our locat ion. This is required for the date/time shown on the lo gs to be correct. View Log button Use this to view each log, as required. Clear Log button Use this to restart the required log .
Advanced Administration Network Diagnostics This screen allows you to perform a "Ping" or a "DNS lookup". These activities can be useful in solving network problem s.
Wireless Router User Guide Options This screen allows advanced users to enter or change a number of set tings. For normal operation, there is no need to use this screen or change any settings.
Advanced Administration PC Database The PC Database is used whenever you need to select a PC (e.g. for the "DMZ" PC). It eliminat es the need to enter IP addresses. Also, you do not need to use fi xed IP addresses on your LAN. PC Database Screen An example PC Database screen is shown bel ow.
Wireless Router User Guide Data - PC Database Screen Known PCs This lists all current entries (PCs or network devices). Name If adding a new PC to the list, enter its n am e here. It is best if this matches the PC's "hostname". IP Address If adding a new PC to the list, enter th e IP Address of the PC here.
Advanced Administration Advanced PC Database This screen is displaye d if the "Advanced" button on the PC Dat abase is clicked. It provides more control than the standard PC Database screen. Figure 50: Advanced PC Database Data - Advanced PC Database Screen Known PCs This lists all current en tries (PCs or network devices).
