Table 2 describes the system LED. Each twisted pair port has two LEDs, as described in Table 3.

To power the switch on o r off, connect or disconnect the power cord provided with the swit ch.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 22 Power over Ethernet The twisted pair ports on the AT-GS900/8POE Gigabit Ethern et switch feature Power over Ethernet (PoE). PoE is a mechanism for supplying power to network devices over the same twisted pair cables use d to carry network traffic.

Chapter 1: Ove rview 24 Ethernet Switching Basics An Ethernet switch interconnects ne twork devices, such as workstatio ns, printers, routers, and other Ethern et switches, so that they can communicate with each other b y sending and receiving Ethernet frames.

If an end node can both receive and tra nsmit data simultaneously, the end n ode is said to be operating in full-duplex mode.

Chapter 2: Inst allation 32 Selecting a Site for the Switch Observe the following requirement s when choosing a site for th e AT-GS900/8POE Gigabit Ethernet switch: If you plan to inst all the switch in an equipment rack, be sure that t he rack is safely secured and that it will not tip over .

Chapter 2: Inst allation 34 Unpacking the Switch To unpack an AT-GS900/8POE Gigabit Ethernet switch, perform the following procedure: 1. Remove all components from the shipping pa ckage. Note Store the packaging material in a sa fe location. You must use the original shipping material if you need to re turn the unit to Allied Telesis.

Chapter 2: Inst allation 36 Mounting the Switch on a Wall You can mount the AT-GS900 /8POE Gigabit Ethernet switch on the wall in a vertical position using the mounti ng brackets that are shipped with the switch. The wall-mounting screws, plastic anchors, and other materials necessary to mount the switch on a wa ll are not provided.

Chapter 2: Inst allation 38 Installing the Switch in a Rack To install the switch in a rack, perform the following procedure: 1. If attached, remove the rubber feet u sing a flat-head screwdriver. 2. Attach a mounting bracket ( provided) to each side of the switch usin g the bracket mounting screws (pro vided), as shown Figure 8.
