6 1.4.1 Give complete, undivided attent ion t o t he job at hand. 1.4.2 Mow only in daylight or in g ood artif icial light, k eeping away from holes or hidden hazards. DO NOT oper at e t he mower when children or others are in the area. 1.4.3 W hen f easible, avoid operating t he eq uipment in wet grass.

16 3.3.9 Using the G r ass Bag : Occasionally, you may w ish t o use t he g rass bag f or bagg ing extra long gr ass, lush grass, or leaves. a) I nst alling the Grass Bag : 1. Stop the eng ine and wait f or all moving part s t o stop. 2. Open the rear door .

W HAT CAN HAPPEN ♦ Thrown objects can result serious personal injury or deat h t o t he oper ator or bystanders. 18 Cutting Leaves : • Aft er cut t ing the lawn, ensure that half of t he lawn shows through t he cut leaf cover. You m ay need to m ak e more than one pass over the leaves. • For light leaf coverage, set all t he wheels at the same cutting heig ht setting .
19 CA UTION POTENT IAL HAZARD ♦ If you leave the wire on the spark plug , someone could accidentally start t he engine. W HAT CAN HAPPEN ♦ Accidental start ing of the eng ine could seriously injure you or other bystanders. HOW TO AVO ID THE HAZARD ♦ Disconnect the wire fr om t he spark plug befor e you don any maintenance.
20 c) Hold the running g arden hose a handle level and direct the water t o f low on the ground j ust in f ront of the rig ht r ear tire (Figur e 11) . FIGURE 11 d) Eng age the blade. NOTE : The blade will draw in water and wash out clippings. Let t he water run until you no longer see clipping being washed out from under t he housing.

22 h) I nst all t he foam pr e- cleaner . i) Install the new paper air f ilt er. j) Install the cover and secure it with the screw. 4.6 Maintaining t he Blade : Always mow with a sharp blade. A shar p blade cuts cleanly and without tearing or shredding t he g rass blades.

24 i) Re-install a sharp balanced Exmark blade, spacer , washers, and blade bolt as shown in Figure 16. The sail of the blade must point toward the top of t he lawn mower housing f or proper installat ion. T orque the blade bolt to 75-85 f t -lb (102-115 N-m ) .
25 e) O pen t he f uel valve to the open position. f) Drain the g asoline completely fr om the tank and f uel line into an approved f uel container. g) Rem ove the f uel tank f rom t he m ower.
