- 10 - 4.1.3 Self-Propel Dr ive Bail : Located on t he upper handle as shown in Figure 5. W hen t he self -propel dr ive bail is squeezed, the unit will move for ward at t he speed set on the speed control lever. W hen t h is bail is r eleased t he unit will stop moving.
- 11 - 4.2 PRE-STA RT 4.2.1 Refer to Section 5 Maintenance and perf orm all of the necessary inspection and maintenance steps. 4.2.2 Fill the Fuel Tank with Gasoline See Section 1.3 Prepar at ion section for saf ety infor m ation regar ding the proper way to handle gasoline.
- 12 - 2. Open the fuel valve. The f uel valve is located at the lower left edg e of t he f uel tank. Rot ate the valve counter-clock wise to turn on fuel. ( Fig . 9) 3. Mov e t he throttle- chok e control to t he ( Choke ) posit ion. NOTE : Do not use the chok e when the engine is warm.

- 21 - NOTE: Do not t r y to clean a paper air filter . 6. Remove the f oam pre-cleaner and wash it with a mild deter g ent and water, then blot it dry (Fig 17) . 7. Satur at e the pre-cleaner with clean eng ine oil, t hen squeeze it (do not t wist) t o remove the excess oil.
- 22 - NOTE : For the best perfor m ance, inst all a new blade bef or e t he cutting season begins. Dur ing t he year, file down any small nicks to m aint ain the cutting edg e.
- 23 - 9. Re-install a sharp balanced Exmark blade, spacer, washer, and blade bolt . The sail of the blade must point t oward the top of t he lawn mower housing f or proper inst allat ion. Torque the blade bolt to 75-85 ft -lb (102-115 N-m). 10. Return the lawn mower to it s upr ight position.
- 24 - 2. Locate t he g rease fit t ing on the underside of t he m ower deck . W ipe the gr ease fitt ings with a clean rag (Fig . 23). 3. Inst all a grease gun ont o the fit t ing and gently apply 2 or 3 pumps of #2 multi- purpose lithium base g rease (Fig.

- 29 - 3. Using an oil can, add about one t ablespoon of oil to the cr ank case throug h t he spar k plug hole. 4. Slowly rotate the engine several t imes, using the star t er rope, to dist ribute the oil. 5. Install the spar k plug but do not connect t he wire to t he spar k plug.
