6 Welc om e Unpacking th e Projector After unpacking the pro jector, make sure you have all the parts shown below: Save all pa ckaging in case you need to ship the pro jector. Alwa ys use the original packaging (o r the equivalent) wh en you need to send the projecto r to another loca tion.

Tilting the p rojector upw ard causes the image to lose its rectangular shape, but you can co rrect the disto rtion b y pre ssing the Keysto ne button as desc ribed i n the next cha pter.
12 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to a Laptop Computer You can connect the Pow erLite proje ctor to any computer that has a standa rd video o utput (mo nitor ) port, in cluding PC notebo ok and laptop comp uters , Macin tosh P owerBo oks, an d hand- held d evices .

14 Setting Up the Projector 4. If necessary, configure your laptop to work with an external mouse. If you don ’ t need to make any other connections, you can plug in your pro jector a nd turn it on.
Setting Up the Projector 15 Connecting to Video Sources You ca n conne ct a D VD pla yer, VC R, cam cord er, la ser disc player , digital camera, or any oth er comp atible vi deo sour ce to your projecto r. The projector supports NT SC, PAL, and SECAM, and automatically detects the vide o format.
16 Setting Up the Projector Connecting S-Video If your video source has an S-video jack, you can us e it to project a higher quality video image. However, you ’ ll need an S-video cable, which may be incl uded with your vid eo source, o r may be purchased.
2 Using the Projector 17 Using the Projector O nce you ’ ve set up the pr ojector, you ’ re ready to turn it on, adjust the image, and give your pr esentation. Although you ca n operate the p rojector w ithout it, the remo te control lets you use additional fe atures.
18 Using the Projector Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your p rojector and o ther equipment are set up and connected correctly, as describe d in Chapter 1 or Appendix A. Then turn on your projector, as described below, fol lowed by any equipment you ’ ve conne cted to i t.
Using the Projector 19 4. Squeeze the lens cap tabs and remove the lens cap. 5. Press the red Power button on top of the proj ector. The power ligh t flashes green as th e projector war ms up, and the projecti on lamp come s on in ab out 30 sec onds. The p ower light stays g reen.

Using the Projector 21 If you ’ re using a Macintosh Laptop: You may need to set up yo ur system to d isplay on the proje ctor scree n as well as th e LCD scree n. Follow th ese steps: 1. From the Appl e menu, select Control Panels , then click Monitors or Monitors and Sound .
22 Using the Projector If you ’ re using a PC laptop: ■ Hold do wn the Fn key and press the func tion key that lets you display on an external monitor. It may have an icon such as or it may be labelled CRT/LCD . Allow a few seco nds fo r the pro jec tor to sy nc u p afte r pr ess in g it.
Using the Projector 23 Focusing and Zooming You r Image Rotate the focus ri ng to sharpen the image. Use the tab to rotate the lens ring and red uce or enlarge the im age. You can also change the image size by moving the projector closer to or farther aw ay from the screen.

Using the Projector 25 Shutting Down the Projector When you ’ ve finished using the pr oject or, follow the rec ommended procedur e to shut it down. Th is extends the l ife of the lamp and protects the project or from po ssible ov erheating. 1. If you ’ re using a computer, shut i t down fi rst.

3 Using the Remote Control 27 Using the Remote Control T he remote co ntrol lets you access your p rojector ’ s feat ures from anywhere in the room — up to 30 feet away. You can use it to turn the projector on and off, zoom in on a portion of your image, and highlight your p resentation.
28 Using the Remote Control Turning On and Using the Remote Control Before using the remote c ontrol , you need to install i ts ba tterie s and turn it on as describ ed below. Installing Batteries Follow these steps to install or r eplace the batter ies: 1.
Using the Remote Control 29 Using the Remote Contr ol When using th e remote co ntrol, stand wi thin 30 feet of the projec tor. Point the rem ote contro l either at the fr ont or back of the projector or at the screen (the pr ojector ’ s front sensor can de tect signals bounced off th e screen).
30 Using the Remote Control Controlli ng the Picture and So und You can use the remote control to select your source, adjust the volume, temp orarily turn o ff the picture and sound, f reeze the act ion, zoom i n on the pictu re, or di splay a pic ture-in-p icture video imag e.
Using the Remote Control 31 Turning Off the Picture an d Sound You can use the A/V Mute button on the remo te control to turn of f the image and sound and dar ken your scre en. This is useful i f you want to temporar ily re-direct yo ur audience ’ s attention witho ut the dist ractio n of a br ight scr een.

4 Fine-tuning the Projector 37 Fine-tuning the Projector Y ou can use the pr ojector ’ s on -screen m enus to ad just the im age, sound, and other featur es. You can also create your ow n startup screen, customi ze the highlighting tools, and find out how long your lamp has been in use.

Fine-tuning the Projector 47 ■ No-Signal Msg . Selects the s creen color and message to display wh en the proje ctor is not rece iving a signal. Th e logo se tting disp lays an image that you have transfe rred to the projec tor. See page 44 for instruc tions on transf erring an image to use as the no-signal message.

5 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 51 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector Y our projector needs little maintenance. All you need to do on a regular basis is keep the lens clean. Any dirt or smears on the lens may show up on your projected im age.
52 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector Cleaning the Lens Clean the le ns whenever you noti ce dirt or du st on the surface. ■ Use a canist er of compres sed air to remo ve dust . ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lens, use lens-cleaning paper.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 53 Cleaning and Re placing the A ir Filter Clean the ai r filter on top of the pr ojector af ter every 100 ho urs of use . If it is not cl eaned periodically, it can b ecome clogged with dust , preventing proper ventilation.
54 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector 4. If you need to repl ace the filter, use a smal l screwdriver to pry it off. 5. To install th e new filter, first insert t he tab, t hen pres s down unt il it clic ks in pla ce. Replacing the Lamp The projecti on lamp typically lasts for about 1000 hours of use.

Solv ing Prob lems 59 What To Do When the Lights Flash The lights on top of the pr ojector indi cate the proj ector ’ s status and let yo u know w hen a pr oblem occ urs. If the projec tor is not working cor rectly, first turn it of f and unplug it.
60 Solv ing P roble ms The temperature light is flashing orange. ■ The projec tor is too hot . Make sure the room temperature do es not exceed 104 ° F and there is plenty of space around and under the projec tor for ventil ation. ■ The air filter may be clogged.
