9 G e tt i n g S t a rte d Before using y our camera, you need to foll ow the instructio ns in this secti o n to: ◗ Charge the batter y w ith the included battery c harger (page 10) ◗ Install the .
10 Charging the Bat tery Be sure to charge the batter y before you use it the first time or if you haven ’ t used it for a long time. Charging takes about two hours.
11 Installing the Memory Card Caution: Turn off y our camera before in stalling or remo ving the memory c ard. Make s ure you insert the card in the correct orientati on, or you may d amage the camera and card. 1 Make sure the camera is turned off . 2 T urn the camera o n its left s ide.
12 Removing a Memory Car d Note: Your cam era won’t store photos and some of its butto ns won’t ope ra te without a memory card correctl y installed . 1 Make sure the camera i s turned off, then slide the batter y cover until i t pops up. 2 P ush in the me mory card t o re le a se i t .

T o remove the battery , open the batter y cover as described in step 2, then release the wh ite batter y catch and take out the bat tery . T ur ning Y our Camera On and Of f Before turning on your camer a, remove the protective film s heet c overing the LCD screen.
14 Setting the Languag e , D ate, and Time When you turn on the camer a for the first time, you need to set th e language, date, and time. 1 T urn on the came ra. 2 If you see the language screen, mo ve the joystick to r to select English , then press the OK button.
15 Installing the Softw a r e T o use all of yo ur camera ’ s special features, ins tall the softwa re on your co mputer from th e camera ’ s CD-R OM. Windows 1 Insert the CD-R OM in your CD-RO M or DVD drive. The Instal ler starts automatically .
16 Macint osh 1 Insert the CD-R OM in your CD-RO M or DVD drive . 2 Doub le-cli ck the Epson CD-ROM ico n if necessar y , then double -click th e Epson icon. 3 Read the license agreement, then clic k Agr ee . Y ou see this sc reen: 4 Clic k Inst all .
17 T aking and Viewing Photos Y ou can take several differ ent types o f photos with your camera and then vie w them on th e LCD screen: ◗ Automatic photos : U se automatically a d justed setting s for gre at snaps h ots. All y ou have to do is point an d shoot.
18 T aking Photos in A utomatic Mode Automatic photograph y mode lets you ca pture high- resolution images without making complicated settings. Y ou can use th e zoom butt ons to move in closer to your subject and set the f lash for in door or low-light photo s.
19 3 Center your subject in the mi ddle of the s quare focus fr ame on the LC D scr een. The de fault fl ash setti ng is automatic, indica ted by the icon on the LC D screen. 20 T aking Photos in Manual Mode If you ar e an advanced photograp her , you may want to use manual mode. This allo w s you to select the quality (resolu tion), w hite balanc e, ligh t sens itiv ity (IS O Speed), and exposur e compensati on. Y ou can also se lect special scene mo des for portra its, landscapes , or night photos.

22 Camera Set tings Camera set tings are displayed on t h e LCD scree n . Note: You can turn off display o f the settings o r select the am ount of informa tion shown.
23 Continuous Shooting In Continuo us Shooting mode, y ou can capture a s e ries of photos by holdi ng the shutter butto n down. Y ou can take up to three photos per second at maximum speed, and contin ue shoot ing until y our memory card is fu ll.
24 Us e o f the flash is not recommend ed with contin uous shooting, so make sur e you have adequate li ghting. 1 T urn the Mode dial to continuous shootin g. 2 If you want to adjust the resolution or other s ettings, press the ME NU butto n. See page 22 for a list of available set tings or see th e Referen ce Gu ide .
25 Recording V ideos Y ou can recor d videos with sound. The length of the video is l imited onl y by the am ount of stor age availa ble on your memory car d . 1 T ur n the Mode dial to vide o. 2 Pr es s the MEN U button. Y ou see the Movie M e nu. 3 Mo ve the joystick to r to change the Resolution setting.

27 T o take a picture with a frame: 1 T urn t he Mode dial to automatic, man ual, or cont in uou s. 2 Pr es s the P.I.F. b utton. The fi rst frame s tored in the ca mera is di splay ed. 3 Select the frame you want by moving the joystick to u or d , then press the OK button.

30 Deleting Photos Y ou can easily delete photos one at a time, delete all the photos in the camera , or del ete a group of continuous photos. Deleting Phot os One at a Time 1 T urn the Mode dial to playback. 2 T o delete the c urrently disp layed photo, move the joystick to d .

32 Adding, Changing, or Removing Fr ames Y ou can add, change, or remo ve a P .I.F . frame on an existing photo using the frames s tored in your ca mera. (See page 26 for more i nformation about P .I.F .) 1 T urn the Mode dial to playback. 2 Select the phot o on which you want to add, c hange , or remove a frame by mo ving the joystick to l or r .
33 Pr inting Y our Photos Y ou can print your photos directly f rom the camera to support ed E pson printer s using Eps on P remium Glo ssy Phot o P aper , P remi um Semiglos s Photo P aper , or PictureMate Photo P ape r (with PictureMate only) in 4 × 6 inch, A4, or Letter siz es (if available).
34 Connecting the Camera to Y our Pr inter Us e the USB T ype A cable that co mes with your came ra to connect it to your printer . Make sure the camera is turned off before you beg in. Y ou can conser ve batter y power by using the optional AC adapter when you pr int from the camera.
35 Pr inting Photos Y ou can pr int all the photos in th e camera or select the ones you want to print. Images with P .I.F . frames must be print ed directly from th e came ra on a supp orte d Epson print er; see pa ge 33 for a l ist of su ppor ted pri nter s.

41 Solving Pr o blems Befor e you call fo r help, check th is list of common problem s an d so lution s an d the Referenc e Guide . Camera Pr oblems The c amera ha s no powe r . ◗ The camera may have shut off automaticall y to save power . P ress the POWER butt on to turn on the camera.
42 The cam era does n ot react when you p ress the button s. ◗ If the light on the front of the camer a is flashing, tr y turning the camera off and then on again. ◗ If the power does not turn off, remove the battery , rein stall it, and turn the pow er on.
43 N othing app ears on t he LCD scr een. ◗ The camera may have shut off automaticall y to save power . P ress the POWER button to turn it back on. Also make su re the mo de di al is turned completely to a mo de. ◗ When the came ra is connec ted to a computer , the LCD scr ee n is disabled.
44 Im ages ar e too dark (under expo sed) or too bri ght (overexposed). ◗ Make sure the flash is not set to flash off. Ho wever , if you are shooting a cl o se-up in macro mode, you should try usin g the flash off se tting. ◗ If you are using the flash, make s ure you ar e the right distance fr om your s u bject: betwee n 2.

46 Not enough free space on the memor y card. Make room by deleting photos or downloading them to your computer and deleting them. See page 30 f or instructions. This frame cannot be used with this came ra. The file siz e of the frame exceeds the camera’ s limit.
