13 Bef ore Using the Remote Contr ol Inserting the Batteri es The batteries are not inserted into the remote control at the tim e of purch ase, and so you need to insert them before the remote co ntrol can be us ed. Pr ocedure 1 Remove the battery compar tment cover .
14 Using the Remote Co ntr ol and Remot e Operating Range The remote control is used in the following way . Pr ocedure 1 Set the R/C switch on the remote contr ol to the ON position. 2 P oint the remote contr ol transmitter t owar d one of the remote contr ol receiver s on the pr ojector and operate the remote contr ol butt ons.
15 Tip : If you would lik e to use the r emote contr ol fr om a distance outside th e normal o pe r ating range, use the op tiona l remote cont rol r eceiver .
16 Installati on Sett ing Up the P rojector The proj ector supports t he follo wing fo ur dif ferent p rojection met hods, allo wing yo u to choose the best metho d for display ing your images .

18 Screen Size and Pr ojection Distance The distance between the projector and the screen d etermines the actual image size. While referring to the table below , position the projector so that the image size is smaller than the screen size. * The value for the projection di stance shou ld be used as a guide for setting up the projector .
19 Connecti n g to a Compu te r Caution : When conn ecting th e projector to a comp ut er , be sure to c heck the follo w in g. • T urn of f the p ower for both th e pr ojector and the computer befo r e connectin g them. If the powe r for either d evice i s on at th e time of co nnection, d amage may r esult.
20 Pr ojecting Im ages fr om the Compu ter The shape and specifications of the computer’ s monitor port will determine which projec tor port and what type of cable should be used.
21 If the computer has a standard D VI or DFP - com plian t digi t al vi deo car d or video output port, use an optional digital video cable or D VI analog cable to connect the mon itor port of the comput er to the Computer 1 port at th e rear of the projector .
22 Use the optional compu ter cable to connect the C omputer 2/Component V ideo port at the rear o f the projector to the mon itor port of the co mputer . 24 Pla ying So und fr om th e Computer The projector has a single b uilt-in speaker with a maximum output of 5W . Y o u can use this built-in speaker to output the audio signals from a computer by usi.
25 Tip : • After making the connect io ns, change the A udi o Inpu t setting in the Au d i o menu to either Aud i o1 , Audi o2 or USB , de pending on whic h in put port y ou ar e using . 28 Connecting to an External M onitor Images can b e viewed on an e xternal computer mo nitor at the same time the y are being pro jected by the projector . Use the cable provided with the co mputer monitor to connect the monitor to th e M onito r Out port at the rear o f the projector .
29 Connecti n g to a Video So ur ce Caution : When conn ecting the pr ojector to other vid eo sources, take the fo llowin g precautions. • T urn off th e power for b oth the p r ojector and th e vid eo so ur ce befor e con nec ting th e m. If the power for ei t her device is on at the time of connection , damage may r esult.
30 Pr ojecting S -Video Ima ges • Use a commercially-a v ailable S-V ideo cable to conn ect the video source to the S-V ideo port at the rear of the proj ector .
31 Pr ojecting C omponent Vid eo Images • Use the opti onal component v ideo cable to co nnect the vide o source t o the Computer 2/Comp onent V ideo port at the rear of the projector .
32 Pr ojecting RGB Vid eo Images RGB vid eo is used wh en RGB si gnals that h av e copy protect ion added are inp ut and projected. • Use the accessory compu ter cable to connect the video source to the Computer 2/Comp onent V ideo port at the r ear of the projector .
33 Tip : • RGB vide o is only compati ble with sync-on -gr een si gnals. Th is can b e checked by lookin g at SYNC M ode in th e About menu. • After making the connect io ns, change the Comp 1 Inpu t or Co mp2 /YCbCr Input setting in the Set ting menu to RGB V ideo .
34 Connecting to an Exte rnal Speaker Y o u can connect the projector's Aud io Out port to speakers with a b uilt-in amplifier in order to enjoy e v en fuller sound . Use a commercially-av ailable audio cable with pin jack ⇔ stereo mini jack 3.

41 Adjusting th e Screen Ima ge Y ou can adjust the screen image in order to obtain the best possible p icture. Adjusting th e Image Size The size of the projected image is basically determ ined by the distance from the projector to the screen.
42 Adjusting the Im age Angle Y o u can change the projection angle for the projector . The projector shou ld be as perpendicular to th e screen as possible. Y ou can extend or retract the front ad justable foot t o adju st the project ion an gle within a maximum range of 12 ° .
43 If the projector can not be set up so that it is perpen dicular to the screen, you c an use the keystone co rrection function which is described on the followin g page to adjust the p rojected images if the an gle of the projector is within a range of approximately 30 ° ver tically or approximately 10 ° horizontally from the perpendicular .
44 Correcting K e ystone Distortion In some cas es it may n ot be possib le to set up the project or so that t he setting angle is perpendicular to the position o f the screen. In such cas es, a type of distorti on kno wn as "k ey stone dist ortion" may a ppear in the p rojected images.
45 Tip : • When k e ystone corr ection is carried o ut, the pr ojected ima ge will become smaller . • Pr ocedur e to fo llow if usin g both h orizontal and v ertical k e ystone co rr ection: 1. W ith the fr ont adjusta ble foo t r etracted , set the pr ojector so that it is fully horizont al.
46 Adjusti ng the Imag e Quality The quality of the screen images can be adjusted as follows. Focusing th e Screen Ima ge Pr ocedure T urn the focus ring to adju st the i mage focus. T urn the focus ring of the projector until the projected images are in proper focus.
47 Tip : • The [Auto] b utt on on the pr oje c t or's control panel does not w ork w hi le a menu or hel p scr een is be ing displaye d. T o use the [A uto] bu tton on the pr ojector's cont r ol pa nel, you need to first exit the menu or he lp scr een.
48 If flickering , fuzziness or interference appear in images that are input f rom the computer , and this cannot be fixed using automatic adjustment, you will need to adjust the synchronization m anually using the following projecti on.
49 Adjusti ng the V olu me Y ou can adjust the vo lume for the sound from the projector's internal speaker or from the e xternal speak ers that are connected to the projector . Pr ocedure Press the [V olume , ] b utton on either the remote control or the pr ojector's contr ol panel.

52 Functions f or Enhancing Pr ojection This section descr ibes the v arious useful fu nctions that can be used to en hance projecti on. List of Func tions The follo wing functions are a v ailable for enhancing projection. Function Detail s Detailed des criptions of the abo v e functions are gi ven b elo w .
53 Pr ocedure Press the [A/V Mute] button on either the remote contr ol or the p roject or's contr ol panel. The image and sound will t hen be paused. Press the [A/V Mute] b utton on either the remote co ntrol or the projector's cont rol panel to conti nue normal p rojection.
54 This function pauses only the p rojected images. The sound keeps p laying withou t pausi ng . Furthermore, fo r movin g pictures, the playback sign al continues to be inpu t ev en while the picture is paused, so playback will not resume from the point from where it w as paused.
55 This function chan ges the aspect ratio of video images fro m 4:3 to 16:9 when video images are being projected. Images which ha ve been reco rded in digital video or o nto D VDs can be vie wed in 16 :9 wide-screen format. In the case of HDTV , the central part of the image can be d isplayed in the whole of the screen.
56 This function lets y ou enlar ge and reduce a part of projected images such as graphs an d tables. Pr ocedure 1 Press the [E-Zoom] button on the remote cont rol. A cursor (c ross) indicating the center point for the area to be enlarged will appear on th e screen.
57 Tip : • The selecte d ar ea can be en la rged to between 1 – 4 t ime s, in 25 steps of x 0. 125. • If a sub-scr een has been set using the P in P fun ction, the enlar gement func tion is applied to bo th the main scr een and the sub-scr een. • Ef fect fun ctions cannot b e carried ou t while the E-Z oom functio n is being used.
58 The [1], [2 ] and [3] b uttons on the remote contr ol can be used to add display ef fects to images that are being projected during a pr esentation. This can be used to emphasize particular parts of the images. Pr ocedure 1 Press the [1], [2] or [3] b utton on the remote co ntrol to select the t ype of effect.
59 3 Tilt the button on the remot e control up, do wn or to the left or right to mo ve the item display ed around the screen. Eff ect 1: The pointer icon mo v es . Eff ect 2: The spotlight mov es. Eff ect 3: Horizontal bars are mo v ed vertically , and vertical bar s are mov ed horizontally .
60 This funct ion let s you simu ltane ously displ ay com puter or co mpone nt vi deo images on the main screen and v ideo images (V ideo or S-V i deo) in a s ub- screen. The v ideo images in the sub-s creen can be selected usin g the P in P command in the Setting menu.
61 The size of the s ub-screen can be ch anged to one of f i v e dif ferent sizes. The follo wing values are the ratios for the ver tical and horizontal lengths of the sub-screens to those of the main screen when the lengths of the m ain screen sides are 1.

Using the Help If a problem occurs with the proj ector , the Help fun ction uses on-screen displays to assist you in so lving the p roblem. It u ses a series of menus in a question and ans wer format.

80 When Ha ving Some T roub le If you are h aving a problem with the pr ojector , f irst check the projector's indi cator s. The projector is pro vided with the follo wi ng three indicators. These indicators alert you t o problems with project or operatio n.
81 Lamp oper ating error This can happen w hen the po wer cord w as disconnected from the e lectrical outlet before the cool-down period had finished the last time the projector was tur ned of f. When turning off the projector , w ait 2 minutes. After about 2 minute s, the cooling fan will stop.
82 Tip : • If the p r ojector is not op eratin g pr operly e ven thou gh the indi cators ar e all showin g normal , refer to "Whe n the Indi cators Pr ovide No He lp" o n the follo wing page.

91 Maintenance This section des cribes maintenance tasks su ch as cleaning the projector and replacing cons umab l e parts. Cleaning Y ou should clean the projector if it beco mes dirty or if the quality of projected images starts to deteri orate.
92 If the air f ilter becomes clogged with dust, it can cause ov erheating and damage the projector . Stand up the projector in order to preven t dust gettin g insi de the projector , and then use a v acuum cleaner to clean aw ay the dust from the air filter .
93 Replacing Co nsumab les This section des cribes ho w to replace the lamp and the air f ilter . It is time to replace th e lamp when: • The message "Lamp Replace" appears on the screen f or 30 seconds when projection star ts. • The lamp indicator flashes or ange or lights red.
94 Caution : If the lamp sto ps work ing and need s to be r eplaced , ther e is the danger t ha t the lamp may break when handled. If r epla cing the lamp of a pr ojector whic h ha s been install ed to the ceiling , you should always assu me tha t the lamp is broken and hand le it wi th extr eme care durin g r emoval.
95 4 T ake out the lamp . Hold the lamp by the tw o recesses on the side to lif t it up and out fr om the projector . 5 Install the new lamp. Hold the lamp so that it f aces the correct way to fit into the projector , and then insert the lamp until it clicks into place and tight en the two fi xing scre ws.
96 The projector has a b uilt-in counter which keeps track of the lamp operating time. When the cumulati v e operating time reaches a certain point, it causes the replacement w arning message to be d isplayed. Therefore, th e counter needs to be reset after the lamp has bee n replaced with a ne w one.
97 Pr ocedure 1 T urn off the pr ojector powe r , wait for the c ool-down period to end, and then disconnect the power cor d. The cool-do wn period last s for about 2 minutes. The actual time will vary depending on the external air temperature. 2 Put your fing er into t he recess i n the air filt er hook, and lift up the a ir filter to remove it.
98 Sa ving a User's Logo Y o u can record the image that is cur rently being pro jected as a user's logo. Pr ocedure 1 Project the imag e that you would like to us e as a user's l ogo, and then press the [Men u] b utton on the pr ojector’ s contr ol panel or the remote contr ol.
99 5 Select Y es at the confirmat ion screen , and then pr ess the button . 6 Select the zoom rate in the Zoom rate setti ng screen , and the n press the but ton. 7 Select Y es at the confirmat ion screen , and then pr ess the button . The image will then be sa ve d.
