Using the Control Panel 5 Using the Control Panel The control panel is adjustable. T o raise it, lift it as shown below . T o lower it, pr ess the button and push the control panel down. Caution: T o avoid damaging the Artisan 700 Series, always press the button to lower the control panel.
6 Using the Control Panel Y ou may see the following icons on the screen: Icon Meaning The Artisan 700 Series is connected to a wired network The Artisan 700 Series is connected to a wireless network The current photo is cropped The Fix Red-Eye setting is on for the current photo or all photos Art700Basics.
Loading P aper 7 Loading Paper Y our Art isan 700 Series has two paper trays. The main tray is for letter-size, legal- size, A4, or 8 × 10 inch paper . Y ou can load up to 120 sheets of letter-size or A4 plain paper in the main tray . When extended, the tray can hold up to 50 legal-size sheets.
8 Loading Paper 3. Slide the left edge guide against the paper . 4. Adjust the other edge guide to your paper size. 5. Lower the photo tray . Make sure the pa per stack fits under the edge guide Art700Basics.
Loading P aper 9 6. T o load paper in the photo tray , squeeze the edge guid es and slide them out. Then insert photo paper with the gl ossy or printable side face-down. 7. Slide the left edge guide against the pape r . Then adjust the other edge guide to your paper size.

12 Placing Originals for Copying or Scanning Placing Originals for Copying or Scanning Y ou can place one or two photos or a document up to letter-size (or A4) on the scanner glass to make color or black and white copies.

Printing From Your Camera’s Memory Card 17 Printing From Your Camera’s Memory Card The Artisan 700 Series lets you print photos from your digital camera ’ s memor y card, or b y connecting your camera directly and using its DPOF ™ settings. Y ou can also print photos stored on a USB drive.

Select View and Print Photos and press OK . 4. P ress l or r to move through y our photos and display one you want to print.

22 Printing From Your Came ra’s Memory Card Printing Layout Sheets Y ou can print the same photo or multiple photos on a single sheet of paper using the Artisan 700 Series templates. 1. P ress the Home button until Photos is selected. 2. P ress l or r and select Photo Layout Sheet .

26 Printing Special Projects Printing Special Projects Y ou can use your Ar tisan 700 Series to make ruled paper and graph paper for homework projects, and even notepaper personalized with your favorite photos. Y ou can also print customized labels directly on to ink jet-printable CDs and D VDs.

Printing CDs and DVDs 29 4. P ress l or r to select Print on CD/DVD , then press OK . Y ou see this screen: 5. Select 1-up , 4-up , or CD/DVD Variety (10-up) to indicate the number of photos in the layout, then press OK . 6. Select Automatic lay out or Place photos manually , if necessary .
30 Printing Special Projects 11. If necessary , adjust the inner and outer diameter of your CD as shown on the screen, then press OK . 12. If desired, select Test Print on Letter/A4 pap er and follow the on-screen instructions to print a test on plain paper .
Printing CDs and DVDs 31 15. Place your disc on the tray with the label side up. G ently press it in place (it does not snap in). Caution: Do not try to pull the CD/DVD tray out; it extends automatically as far as possible. 16. Pr ess the L CD Tray button to position the CD/DVD for printing.
32 Printing Special Projects 19. Remov e your disc. 20. Pr ess the L CD Tray button to put away the CD/DVD tray . 21. P ress the button and push the control panel down. Note: After printing, handle your CD/DVD carefully . Y ou may need to wait up to 24 hours for the ink to dry fully before inserting it in a drive.
Printing Fr om Your Compute r 33 Printing From Your Computer This section describes the basic steps for printing a photo or document stored on your W indows or M acintosh computer . F or instr uctions on two-sided printing , see page 40. F or additional printing instr uctions, see the on-screen Epson Information Center .
34 Printing From Your Computer 3. Select EPSON Artisan 70 0 Series , then click the Preferences or Properties button. Note: If you see a Setup , Printe r , or Options button , click it. Then click Preferences or Properties on the next screen. 4. On the Main tab , select the basic print settings.

36 Printing From Your Computer 5. Select the basic page setup options. F or borderless photos, choose a Paper Size setting with a Borderless option. Note: If the setting you want isn’t shown (for example, Sca le ), check for it in your application before printing.

T o monitor your print job, click the icon in the dock. Sele ct your print job, then select an option to cancel, pause, or re sume printing, if necessary .

40 Printing From Your Computer Two-sided Printing If you have the optional auto duplexer , you can print on both sides of the page automatically . With Windo ws, you can configure the printer software and perform two-sided printing even if you don ’ t have the auto duplexer .
Two-sided Printing 41 Windows F ollow the Windows printing instructions beginning on page 33, but complete the additional steps below before y ou start printing.
42 Printing From Your Computer Mac OS X F ollow the Macintosh printing instructions beginning on page 35 (Mac OS X 10.5) or page 37 (Mac OS X 10.3 and 10 .4), but complete the addi tional steps below before you start printing. 1. Select Auto Duplex Printing Settings from the pop-up menu.
Scanning a Document or Photo 43 Scanning a Document or Photo Y ou can use your Ar tisan 700 Series to scan original documents and photos and save them as digital files on your computer .

46 Maintaining Your Artisan 700 Series If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, select Head Cleaning , then press OK . Then press x Start to clean the print head. Cleaning the Print Head If print quality has declined and the no zzle check indicates clogged nozzles, you can clean the print head.
Checking the Ink Cartridge Status 47 Checking the Ink Cartridge Status Y our Art isan 700 Series will let you know when an ink cartridge is low or expended by displaying a message on its screen or on your computer . Y ou cannot print or copy when an ink cartridge is expend ed even if the other cartridges are not expended.
48 Maintaining Your Artisan 700 Series Purchasing Epson Ink Cartridges Y ou can purchase genuine Epson ink and paper at E pson Supplies Central SM at www .epson.com/ink3 (U.S. sales) or www .epson.ca (Canadian sales). Y ou can also purchase supplies from an Ep son authorized reseller .
Replacing Ink Cartridges 49 Replacing Ink Cartridges Make sure you have a new ink cartridge befor e you begin. Y ou must install new cartridges immediately af ter re moving the old ones. Caution: Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink.
50 Maintaining Your Artisan 700 Series 3. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift it straight up. D ispose of it carefully . Do not take the used cartridge apart or tr y to refill it. Warning: If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water .
Solving Problems 51 Solving Problems Check the messages on the display screen to diagnose the cause of most problems. P ress the Home button, if necessar y , then press l or r to select Problem Solver .
