B-1 Appendix B: Cables and Pinouts Twisted-Pair Cabl e Assignments For 10/100BASE-TX connections, a twist ed-pair cable must have two pairs of wires. Each wire pai r is identified by two dif ferent colors. For example, one wire might be gree n and the other , green with white stripes.
Cables and Pinout s B-2 10/100BASE-TX Pin Assignments Use unshielded twi sted-pair (UTP) or shielded twist ed-pair (STP) cable for RJ-45 connections: 100-ohm Cat egory 3 or better cable for 10 Mbp s connections. Also be sure that the length of any twisted-p air connec tion does not exceed 100 meters (328 feet).
T wisted-Pair Cab l e Assignme nts B-3 Straight-Through Wiring If the twisted-pa ir cable is to join two ports and only one of the port s has an internal crossover (MDI-X), the two pairs of wires must be stra ight-through.
Cables and Pinout s B-4 Console Port Pin Assignments The DB-9 console port on the front p anel of the access point is used to connect to t he access point for out-of-band console configuratio n. The command-line configuration program can be accessed from a terminal, or a PC runni ng a terminal emulation program.
