8 2 Before you Begin This section wil l guide you thr ough the install ation pr oces s. Place ment o f the ENGENIUS EAP300 is ver y impor tant to maximize the EAP300’ s per fo rmance. Av oid placing the EAP300 in an enclosed space su ch as a c loset, cab inet , or ward robe.
9 2.2 Computer Se ttings (Windows XP/Windows Vista/ Wind ows 7 ) In orde r to use the EAP300 , you must first conf igur e the T CP/IPv4 conne ction o f your comp uter s ystem.
10 • In Windows X P , click Network Connection s • In Windows 7 , click Vi ew Network Status a nd Tasks in the Network and Inte rnet se ction, the n select Chang e Adapter S ettings • Right clic.
11 • Highlight Inter net Protocol V ersion 4 (T CP/IP v4 ) and select Properties • Select Use the followi ng IP address and enter I P address and subnet mask th en pr ess OK . Note: Ensure that the IP address and subnet mask are on the same subnet as the device.
12 2.3 Appl e Mac X O S • Open th e System Preferences (can be opene d in the Applications folder or selecting it in t he A pple Menu ) • Select Netw ork in the Internet & Network section • Highlight Ethernet • In Configure IPv4 , select M anua lly • E nter IP address and subnet mask then p ress OK .
13 2.4 Hardware Installation 1) Ensure that t he compu ter in use has an Ethe rnet Car d (RJ - 45 Etherne t Port). For more inf ormat ion, veri fy wi th our compute r user m anual. 2) Connect one end of the Category 5 Ethernet cable into RJ - 45 port of the EAP300 and the other end to the RJ - 45 port on the computer that will use the EAP300.
14 3 Configur ing Y our Access Point This section w ill show you how to conf igu re the device using the web - base d configuration interface. 3.1 Default Settin gs Please use you r Ethernet p or t or wireless netwo rk a dapter to co nnect the A ccess P o int .
15 3.2 Web Co nfi gurat ion • Open a web bro wser (I nter net Explorer/Firefox/Safari) and e nter the IP Address : http: //192.168. 1 .1 Note: If you h ave changed the default LAN IP Addr ess of the Acc ess Poin t , ensure you enter the correct IP Address.

18 4 System 4.1 Operati on Mode Each operating mode of fer s different f eatures. I n order to switch th e opera ting mo de, s elect it from th e Oper ation Mode from the Sy s t e m M e nu . Th ere are three operatio n mo des: Access Poi nt , WDS AP , and WDS Bridge .

21 WLAN Settings Channel Displays the current Wir eless Channel in use by the EAP3 00 . ESSI D The SSID (Network Name) o f the wireless netw ork (up to 4 SSIDs supported) . Securi ty Current wir eless encr yption for the corresponding SSID . BSSI D The MAC addr ess of the corresponding S S I D.
22 4.3 DHCP The D HCP option i n the Sys t e m menu display s the client IP address assigned by the DHCP Ser ver . Y ou can also set the IP Addresse s of the connected de vices manually .

24 4.4 Schedul e The Schedule option o f the Sys t em menu all ows you to set a sched ule wh en the E AP30 0’ s Wireless i s acti ve. The Schedule T able will displa y: • N O. : The ent r y number of the schedul e. • Description: The name gi ven to t he sche dule.

26 4.5 Event Log The E vent Log of t he Sy s t e m menu displays the system events and actions of the EAP300 . When p owered down or rebooted, t he Event Log will be cl eared. Even t Log Sav e Save the log to a .txt file. Clear Clear the log. R efres h Update the log.
27 4.6 Monitor The Monitor option of the Sy s t e m menu displays 2 his togram graphs. The hist ograms repr esent the bandw idth usage of both the da ily us e of the Ether net and the daily use o f the WLAN. If you cli ck on Deta il , a new browser win dow will open with 4 additional histograms (6 total) .
28 5 Wirel ess 5.1 Status The Statu s of the Wire less men u disp lays the current status o f the E AP300' s wire less confi guration . WLAN Settings Channel The wireless c hannel in use. ESSI D The SSID (Network Name) o f the wireless netw ork (up to 4 differ ent SSIDs) .
29 5.2 Basic The Basic option o f the Wireles s menu displays the basic wir eless options of the EAP300 . Basic Radio Enable or Disable the EAP300 ’ s wireless signal. Mode Select between Acc ess P o int or Wireless Distribu tion System (WDS) modes.
30 Channel Manually select which channel the wir eless signal will use. Check Chan nel T ime Whe n Auto Channel is Ena ble d , yo u can specify the period of devic e will scan the wireless signals around your a rea.
31 5.3 Advanc ed The A d va n c e d option of the Wireless menu displays the adv an ced wirele ss options of the EAP300. It is recommen ded t hat the EAP300’ s default settings ar e us ed unless the user has experien ce w ith a dvanced networki ng .
32 R TS Threshold When the pack et size is smaller than the RTS Thr eshold, the p acket wi ll be sent without an R TS/CTS han dshak e , which may result in inc orrect transmission. Beacon Inter val The time inter val that the devic e broadcasts a be acon.
33 Adv anced ( WD S Bridge mode) Fragment T hreshold Specifies the maximum size of the p acket per fragment. This function can reduc e the chance o f pack et collision. However , when the fragment threshold is set too low , there will be incr ea sed overhead resulting i n poor perfor mance.
34 Pre amble T ype A preamble is a message that helps acc ess points synchronize with the cl ient. Long Preamble is standa rd b ased so in creases compatibility . Shor t Preamble is non - standar d, resulti ng in decreased comp atibility , but increased performance.
35 5.4 Security The Security option in the Wireless menu allows yo u to set th e wireless secu rity set tings. Note: O nly in Acce ss P oi nt and WDS AP mode. Securi ty (Access Point / WDS AP mode) SSID Selec tion Select the SSID that the corresponding security settings will apply to.
36 En cr y pt io n The encr yption method to be used on the corresp onding SSID . Y ou can choose between W EP , WP A Pre - Shared K ey , or WP A RADIUS. • Disabled - N o data encryption is used. • WEP - D ata is encrypted using the WEP standard. WEP is the Wired E quivalent Privacy security over a wireless network.

44 Authentic a tion Mode S hows the encr yption method used by the WPS process. T his is set as the mode select ed in the Securi ty option in the Wireless menu. Passphrase Key This is the passphrase k ey that is randomly generated during the WPS pr ocess.

48 6.2 LAN The L AN option of the Network menu allows you to modify the device 's LAN settings. LAN IP Bridge T ype Select the Bridge type of the L AN. St atic IP : Manua lly specify an IP address and subnet mask for the EAP300 to use. Dynamic IP : T he IP address is r eceived automatically from the ext ernal DHCP ser ver .

The S NMP is a networki ng manage ment pr ot ocol used t o monitor netw ork - attached device s.
