Processor Types 151 03D—Owner’s Manual Processor T ypes Dynamics proc essors ar e generally used to c o rrect or c ontr ol signal levels. The y can, howev er , be used cr eativ ely t o shape a sound’ s volume en v elope. The dynamics proces- sor ty pes, parameters, and their general applications are explained in the following sec- tions.
152 Chapter 14—Dynamics Processors 03D—Owner’s Manual Signals at and above the thr eshold lev el are c ompr essed b y the amount specified using the Ratio parameter . The trigger signal is sourced using the KEY IN parameter . RA TIO —This determines the amount of compr ession.
Processor Types 153 03D—Owner’s Manual THRESHOLD —This determines the level at which the gat e closes, cutting off the sig- nal. S ignals abov e the thr eshold level pass thr ough unaffected. Signals at or below the threshold, ho w ever , cause the gat e to close.
154 Chapter 14—Dynamics Processors 03D—Owner’s Manual is reduced t o a level set b y the Range parameter . The trigger signal is sourced using the KEY IN parameter . RANGE —This determines the level to whic h the signal is duck ed. For a setting of –80 dB, the sig nal is vir tually cutoff.
Processor Types 155 03D—Owner’s Manual RA TIO —This determines the amount of expansion. That is, the c hange in output sig- nal level relati v e t o c hange in input signal level. For a 2:1 ratio, for example, a 5 dB change in input level (belo w the threshold) r esults in a 10 dB change in output level.
