To specify a syst em name, enter system name , fo llowed by a text description of up to 19 characters. Note. You cannot include spaces between words when entering a system name.
20 Files and Directories June 2007 Boot and Image Files Although the fl ash memory on OmniSwitch 6850 Series switches can contain many file types (e .g., log and snapshot files), there are four specific fi le ty pes that provid e key switch and network functions.
June 2007 Files and Directories 21 Image Files Image files (those files with .img extensions) contain an executable code t hat provides support for the sy stem, Ethernet ports, and network function s. In other word s, they serve as essential drivers for swit ch and network o perations.
22 Files and Directories June 2007 W orking and Certified Directories OmniSwitch 6850 Series swi tches offer flash memory w ith 8 MB base ROM space and 64 MB extended ROM. This mem- ory is used to st ore files, inclu ding boot an d image files, tha t are used for switch opera tions.
June 2007 Files and Directories 23 Certified Directory The software in the /flash/certified directory should be treated as the “gold master” for the swit ch. When you place configu- ration and image files i n this direct ory, you are “certi fying” them as tested and re liable.
24 Files and Directories June 2007 Can I save changes to the Certified directory? No. The /flash/certified directory is intended to store only tested, reliable configuration and image fi les. Configuration changes must be saved to th e boot.cfg file in the /flash/wo rking directory.

26 Using WebView June 2007 The switch can be configured and monitored using WebView, Alcatel-Lucent ’s Web-based de vice management tool. WebView software is pre-installed in the switch; y ou are not required to load ad ditional so ftware.
