Safety instructions The safety of AEG/ELECTROLUX appliances complies with the industry standards and with legal r equirements on the safety of appliances. However , as manufacturers, we feel it is our duty to pr ovide the fol- lowing safety notes. Gener al safety • Repairs to the machine must be carried out only by qualified per son- nel.
Child safety • Children are often not awar e of how dangerous electrical appliances can be. When the machine is working, children should be car efully supervised and not be allowed to play with the appliance - there is a risk that they could become trapped inside.
Disposal Packaging materials The materials marked with the symbol are r ecyclable. >PE< =polyethylene >PS< =polystyrene >PP< =polypropylene This means that they can be recycled by disposing of them pr operly in appropriate collection container s.
• If the water has a medium or high degr ee of hardness (starting fr om hardness degr ee II, see “Detergents and additives”) water softener s must be added. 12 Description of the appliance P osition 60E corr esponds to the ENERGY SAVING progr amme for nor- mally soiled laundry , extended washing time. The washing temperature will decrease (cannot be combined with QUICK ) . Position = Cold wash. Position = Drying.
13 To annul the pr eset delay , press the ST ART/PAUSE button, then pr ess the DELA Y START button until the symbol 0’ is displayed. Then press the ST ART/PAUSE button again to r estart the progr amme.
RINSE HOLD By selecting this option, the last rinse water is not emptied out, to prevent the fabrics fr om creasing. When the pr ogramme has finished, the RINSE HOLD and END pilot lights on the progr amme progr ess display go on, the START/P AUSE pilot light goes off and the door will be locked to indicate that the water must be emptied out.
EXTRA RINSE Selecting this button the machine will add 2 rinses for cottons and 1 rinse for synthetics and delicates. This option can be selected with all pr ogrammes, except the W ool and handwash progr ammes and Miniprogr amme. This option is recommended for people who ar e allergic to deter gents, and in areas wher e the water is very soft.
Cancelling a pr ogramme To cancel a pr ogramme which is running, turn the pr ogramme selector dial to the RESET position ( H ). Warning! After a pr ogramme which ends with water in the drum (RINSE HOLD option), turn the selector dial first to RESET ( H ) and then to the DRAIN (D) or SPIN (F) progr amme.
Deter gent dispenser dr awer Compartment for prewash or soak deter gent and stain remover . The prewash detergent is added at the beginning of the wash pr ogramme, the stain remover during the ST AIN-Action phase in the main wash at the optimal time. Compartment for powder or liquid detergent used for main wash.

W eight of laundry T ypes of fabric and care labels The labels on garments help you to select the most suitable wash pro- gramme. The laundry should be sorted out accor ding to the type of fab- ric and the instructions indicated on care labels. Temper atures indicated on labels ar e always maximum temperatur es.
Delicates Microfibr es, synthetics or curtains marked with these symbols requir e a very gentle treatment. The DELICATES pr ogramme is suitable for this type of fabric. Woollens and particularly delicate items Fabrics such as wool, wool mix or silk marked with this symbol are par- ticularly sensitive to machine washing.
21 Deter gents and additives Which deter gent and additive? Use only detergents and additives for washing machines. Follow the manufacturer’ s instructions.
Pr eparing the drying cycle As a dryer , the machine works on the condensation principle. Therefor e, the water tap must be open and the drain hose must drain water into a sink or into the dr ain pipe, even during the dry- ing cycle .
Drying symbols on garment labels Always look at the garment label to check whether garments can be machine dried. The following symbols refer to drying: Machine drying is usually possible Normal dryin.
Additional drying Should the laundry still be too wet at the end of the progr amme, set another short drying cycle. Warning! T o prevent the formation of cr eases or shrinking of fab- rics, avoid excessive drying. 24 Preparing the drying cycle 132984560.
25 How to wash Load the laundry Open the door . Place the laundry in the drum, one item at a time. Distribute laundry as evenly as possible. Close the door . Add deter gent and additive Pull the drawer out till it stops. P our the main wash detergent into compart- ment .
26 How to wash Selection of the desir ed wash progr amme Turn the pr ogramme selector dial to the desired position: the lights corr esponding to the different phases making up the selected progr amme light on.
Starting the pr ogramme 1. Check that the water tap is open. 2. Press ST ART/PAUSE to start the pr ogramme. If the Delay Start option has been selected the progr amme will start at the end of the countdown.
At the end of the pr ogramme The machine stops automatically . A blinking zero appears on the display . The END light comes on in the progr amme progr ess display , the START/P AUSE light is off.
Depress the ON/OFF button to switch the machine on. Select the drying progr amme (for cotton or synthetics). Depress the DRYING TIME button until the time you want appear s in the display .
30 Pr ogr amme chart W ash progr ammes ECONOMY Select the economy progr amme “60E” when washing normally soiled whites. The washing phase will be slightly longer . In compliance with EC directive 92/75, the consumption figur es indicated on the energy label r efer to the 60E wash progr amme for cotton with a load of 5 kg.

34 Cleaning and maintenance After each wash At the end of the wash progr amme, pull the dispenser drawer out a lit- tle to let it dry . Leave the door ajar to allow air to circulate. If the machine is not used for a prolonged period: Close the water tap and unplug the appliance.
Door seal Regularly check to see, if there ar e deposits or foreign objects in the rubber seal behind the door and remove them. Dr ain filter The drain filter collects threads and small objects inadvertently left in the laundry . Check regularly that the filter is clean.
Emer gency emptying out If the water is not discharged (pump is blocked, filter or dr ain hose are clogged), proceed as follows to empty out the machine: • pull out the plug fr om the power socket; .
37 Something not working? If during the spin cycle the machine makes an unusual whistling noise, different fr om the noise made by tradi- tional washing machines, this is due to a new type of motor . If water is not visible in the drum, this is due to the modern technology of new washing machines that use less water than traditional machines.

Installation Unpacking All transit bolts and packing must be r emoved before using the appli- ance. Using the supplied spanner , unscrew and remove the r ear right-hand bolt and lay the machine on its back, taking care not to squash the hoses. This can be avoided by placing one of the corner packing pieces between the machine and the floor .
Set the machine upright and remove the two remaining bolts from the back. Pull out the three plastic spacers from the holes into which the bolts were fitted.
W ater inlet Connect the water inlet hose to a tap with a 3/4" thread. The other end of the inlet hose which connects to the machine can be turned in any direc- tion. Simply loosen the fitting, rotate the hose and r etighten the fitting, making sure ther e are no water leaks.
49 Electrical connection This machine is designed to operate on a 220-230 V, single-phase, 50 Hz supply . Check that your domestic electrical installation can take the maximum load requir ed (2.2 kW), also taking into account any other appliances in use.
Building-in This appliance has been designed to be built into the kitchen furniture. The recess should have the dimen- sions shown in picture A. Pr eparation and assembly of the door The machine is originally pre- arranged for the assembly of a door opening from right to left.
