3. Using the camera Using the camera buttons Read this section to le arn how to configure the camera and use the adva nced features. 3.1 Using the camera buttons All buttons are located on the top and t he back of the camera.

3.2 Using the camera LCD display Use the LCD display to compose your pictures and videos, review pictures and videos stored in memor y , and navigate the menu system . Using the camera LCD displa y Icons are also displayed on th e LCD display that show the current configuration.

3.4 Photo mode Photo mode is the simplest mode to use when taking still Photo mode pictures. In camera automatically selects the shutter speed and the aperture for you, but you can specify other settings. In normal conditions this will produce very good quality pictures with very little effort.

3.4.3 Flash Press the joystick up to c ycle through the six flash modes. The flash mode is indicated by th e flash icon at the top of the LCD screen. The following table explains the five dif ferent flash Flash mode Photo mode modes. Icon Desc ription No flash, the flash never fir es.
3.4.4 Macr o When the macro function is enabled, the camera can focus on very close subjects. Press the joy-stick left to toggle the macro function on and off . A macro icon is displayed on the LCD screen to indi cate when macro mode is enabled. Note: The macro function works in photo, scene, and video modes.
3.4.6 Menu options In Photo mode there are a number of menu options available. Photo mode V iew the menu options by pressing the menu button. Self timer . Use the self time r to add a delay between pressing the Shutter button and the picture being captured.

Exposure Compensation The exp comp option lets you incr ease or decrease the exposure Photo mode compensation of the captured picture. T o change the exposure com pensation setting: 1. Press the menu button to display the menu. 2. Use the joysti ck (left and right) to highlight the EXP COMP option and press the center joy- stick button to confirm.
3. Use the joystick (up and down ) to highlight a WB setting and press the center joystick button to confirm. Photo mode 4. Press the menu butt on to exit the menu. The White Balan ce setting can be set to tungsten (incandescent), f luorescent, cloud y , sunny , or automatic.
Auto Focus The AF (auto focus) option can be set to automatic and manual. Photo mode 1. Press the menu button to display the menu. 2. Use the joystick (left and right) to highlight the AF MODE option and press the center joy- stick button to confirm. 3.
Digital Zoom The digital zoom can be turned on or off . The digital zoom can be used to zoom in on a s ubject, but you may prefer to use only the optical zoom sinc e the quality of the resulting Photo mode picture will be higher . 1. Press the menu button to display the menu.
3.5 Scene mode Scene mode is very simple to use and i ncludes a set of 15 preset programs to m ake p icture taking easy . All the settings are mad e for yo u. Scene mode 3.5.1 Using scene mode 1. Use the mode dial to switch th e camera to SCN Mode. 2.

3.5.5 Menu options The menu options in s cene mode ar e limited be cause they are automatically se t according to the scene selected. But you can change image size and quality settings, see “Pixel” on page 23 and “Quality” on page 24. V ideo mode T o go back to scene sele ction: 1.

3.6.3 Menu op ti ons The menu options in video mod e include SELF TIMER, Setup QUALITY , EXP . COMP , and WB . For details of these options, see “Menu options” on page 23. 3.7 Setup Use setup mode to set the came ra configurations to suit y our personal preferences.
3.7.3 Form at Use the format option to format the cam era memory or memory card. Note: When you form at the memor y , al l data will be deleted. Make sure you back up all yo ur ne c essary files before you perform the format fu nction. T o use the format option: 1.
1. Set the cam era to set up mode using the mode dial. 2. Highlight the power saving Setup icon using the joystick (left and right). Press the joys tick button down to confirm. 3. Use the joystick (up and down) to highlight the power saving option you require.
3. Use the joystick (up and down) Setup to highlight the on or off op tion. 4. If the on option is high lighted, use the joysti ck (left and right) to set the volume level. 5. Press the joystick button down to confirm. 3.7.7 L anguage See “Setting the languag e” on page 9.
3.7.9 Fr equency Setup The frequency option allows y ou to match the refresh rate of florescent lighting with the camera. In the United sates it should be set at 60Hz. In Europe, it sho uld be 50Hz. T o set the frequency : 1. Set the cam era to setup mode using the mode dial.
2. Highlight the TV out option Playback mode using the joystick (lef t and right). Press the joystick button down to confirm. 3. Use the joystick (up and down) to highlight the NTSC option (for USA). 4. Press the joystick button down to confirm. 3.8 Playback mode Use playback mode to view th e pictures and videos on th e camera’ s LCD screen.
Playback mode T o protect a file: 1. et the camera in playback mode and find the pic ture to be protected on the screen. 2. Press the menu button to display the menu. 3. Use the joysti ck (left and right) to highlight th e PROTECT option and press the joystick button in to confirm.
3. Use the joysti ck (left and Playback mode right) to highlight th e ERASE icon and press the joystick button in to confirm. 4. Use the joystick (up and down) to highlight the Ex ecute or Cancel option. Press the joystick button in to confirm. The current picture or vi deo will b e delet e d.
1. Use the joystick up to sele ct “S tart” and down to ““Cancel” 2. Press the joystick button to stop auto play . Print Use the print function to set DP OF function. Y ou can tag all pictures or just the curren t picture to be printed. Y ou can also select how many copies to print and whether to in clude the date and time.
The print setting s are applied to the current pictur e. Y ou can then take your memor y card to a photo shop Playback mode and print the pictures per your own specifications. DPS DPS (Direct Print) is a standa rd that enables you to connect the camera directly to a printer using th e USB interface.
4. Installing the softwar e and drivers Drivers Read this section to learn how to install the driver and softwa re fo r the camer a. 4.1 Drivers Y ou will on ly need to install a driver for the c amera if your operating system is W indows 98SE, or W i ndows ME.
3. Click the install button to inst all the driver . 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 5. Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable provided as described in “Connecting to a computer” on page 13.
