6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server must have a unique I P address in order to be recognized by the networ k. You can set up the IP addr ess on the various Unix systems using any one of the following m ethod s: 1. DHCP (Dynamic Host Conf iguration Protocol) 2.
services before doing the f o llowing BOOTP configuration. To rebuild th e NIS map, pl ease refer to your system documentation. To conf igure t he IP address data for the BOOTP server, you will need to log in the ho st o f BOOTP server as the superuser (root).
For example , a print server w ith the fo llowing configuration: Node ID: 0000B4010101 (this im plies Ethernet address is 0000B40 10101), IP address: 203.66.191. 12 The entry for this print server in the /etc/bootptab file should be: PS010101: :ht= 1: :ha=0000B4010101: :ip=203.
6.4 Verify Prin t Server’s IP A ddress To verify that your print se rver is respond ing to the newly assigned IP addres s using a PING command: ping i p-a ddre ss.
6.5 Configure Remo te L PD Printing on the Host The procedure you use to co nfigure your Uni x host(s) to allow printing to your networ k remote prin t server varies between different var ieties of Unix. The procedure below can be used for Unix variant s that are related to BSD Unix, such as SunOS or Linux.
mkdir /var/spool/lpd/pse rverd chown daemon /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chgrp daemon /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chmod 775 /var/spool/lpd/pser verd 3. Add an entry to the host’ s /etc/printcap file, similar to the f ollowing: printer-name: :lp= : :rm=203.
The print server should now be availabl e for printing from your Unix ho st..
