Introduction 7 de v o l o d L A N 5 0 0 AVplus 2I n t r o d u c t i o n dLAN is an intelligent, secure technology that lets you set up a home network easily, quickly and economical- ly via your household electrical wiring, without the need for complex and expensive dedicated cabling.
8 Introduction devolo dLAN 500 AVplus 2.1 What exactly is dLAN? dLAN ( d irect L ocal A rea N etwork) uses the household power grid to transfer data between computers equip- ped with suitable adapters and other network compon- ents. As a result, any power outlet can be used as a network access point.

It will explain connecting the dLAN 500 A Vplus and its functions. We will also briefly introduce the included devolo software and gui- de you through its installation.

Initial use 15 de v o l o d L A N 5 0 0 AVplus Please note that dLAN d evices such as the devolo dLAN duo (14 Mbps) and devolo dLAN Highspee d Ethernet II (85 Mbps) can be used on the same household electrical wiring as dLAN AV devices (200 Mbps/ 500 Mbps) without interferen ce, but they will not be able to communicate directly with one a nother.
16 Initial us e devolo dLAN 500 AVplus 3.3 Functions The dLAN 500 A Vplus features 3 control LEDs as well as a network port and an encryption button: Power green : Lit steady when dLAN 500 AVplus is ready for operation; flashes when it is in standby mode.

A dLAN AV devi ce switches to Standby mode after a short while if no active n etwork de- vice such as a comp uter i s connected to the network port.
18 Initial us e devolo dLAN 500 AVplus If autoplay is installed on your computer, the installation will start automatically. Otherwi- se, open the folder with the Windows Explo- rer by right-clicking on Start (or the Windows logo ) and selecting Exp lorer from the con- text menu.
dLAN net work 19 de v o l o d L A N 5 0 0 AVplus 4d L A N n e t w o r k 4.1 Security in the dLAN Before you can use the dLAN 500 AVplus in your dLAN network, first you have to connect it to other dLAN AV devices as a home network.
20 dLAN network devolo dLAN 500 AVplus After starting the dLAN Cockpit, all reachable dLAN devices in your home network will appear. This may take a moment.

22 dLAN network devolo dLAN 500 AVplus The Troubleshooting Guide includes installation in- structions and information about how to connect your devices optimally with one another. 4.2.1 Encrypting a network with dLAN Cockpit If you use dLAN AV devices without an encryption button , data can be encrypted only via dLAN Cockpit .

24 dLAN network devolo dLAN 500 AVplus Encrypting a new dLAN 500 AVplus network con- sisting of two dLAN 500 AVplus adapters (fig 4) Once both dLAN 500 AVplus adapters have been suc- cessfully connected, press each encryption button for 1 second within two minutes of one another.
dLAN net work 25 de v o l o d L A N 5 0 0 AVplus Expanding an existing dLAN AV network with a new dLAN 500 AVplus (fig 5) If you have already secure d your existing dLAN 500 AVplus network using the encryption but- ton, use the same method to integrate other adapters.
26 dLAN network devolo dLAN 500 AVplus Excluding a dLAN 500 AVplus from your network (fig 6) To exclude a dLAN 500 AVplus adapter from an exist- ing network, press its encryption button for at least ten seconds . The device will be assigned a new ran- domly generated password and will thus no longer be able to access the network.
