Using the Display 47 4 Using the Display Adjusting Brightness When a Dell™ computer is runn ing on battery power , you can conserve power by setting the display brightness to the lowest comfortable level. • P ress <Fn> and the up-arrow key to in crease brightness on the integrated display only (not on an external monitor).

70 Using Multimedia Copying CD, DVD, and Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) Media This section applies only to computer s that hav e a D VD+/-RW drive or a BD-RE drive. NOTE: Ensure that you observe all copyright laws when copying media. NOTE: The types of optical drives offered by Dell may vary by country .
Using Mu ltimedia 71 3 T o copy the CD, DVD, or BD: • If you have one optical drive , insert the source disc into the drive, ensure that the settings ar e correct, and then click the Copy Disc button to continue. The computer reads your source disc and copies the data to a temporary folder on your computer hard drive.
72 Using Multimedia DVD-Writable Drives BD-Writable Drives Helpful T ips • Use Microsoft ® W indows ® Explorer to drag and drop files to a CD-R or CD-R W only after you start Roxio Cr eator and open a Creator project. • Do not burn a blank CD-R or CD-RW to its maximum capacity ; for example, do not copy a 650-MB file to a blank 650-MB CD.
Using Mu ltimedia 73 • Use CD-Rs to burn music CDs that yo u want to play in regular ster eos. CD-RWs do not play in most home or car stereos. • Music MP3 files can be played only on MP3 players or on comp uters that have MP3 software installed.
74 Using Multimedia Adjusting the Picture If an error message notifies you that the curr ent resolution and color depth are using too much memory and preventing media playback, adjust the display properties: 1 Click Start → Control P anel → Appearance and P ersonalization .
Using Mu ltimedia 75 NOTE: Y ou cannot reinstall Dell MediaDirect if you voluntarily reformat the hard drive. Y ou need the installation software to reinstall Dell MediaDirect. Contact Dell for assistance (see "Contacting Dell" on page 203).

Using Mu ltimedia 77 When you finish connecting the vide o and audio cables between your computer and your TV , you must enable your computer to work with the TV . See "Enabling the Display Settings for a TV" on page 90 to ensure that the computer r ecognizes and works properl y with the TV .

NOTE: If your TV or audio device su pports S- video but not S/PDIF digital audio, you can connect an S-video cable directly to the S-video TV -out connector on the computer (without the TV/digital audio adapter cable).
