When the battery is completely discharged, the computer automatically turns off. 7 Connect the AC adapter to your computer . 8 Allow the AC adapter to char ge the battery until the battery status light turns off.

Power Management 31 Power Management Power Management T ips NOTE: See "Using a Battery" on page 27 for more information on conserving battery power . • Connect the computer to an electrical outlet when possible because battery life is largely determined by the number of times the battery is charged.

Using PC Cards 45 Using PC Cards PC Card T ypes The PC Card slot has one connector that supports a single T ype I or T ype II card. The PC Car d slot supports CardBus technology and e xtended PC Card s. "T ype" of card r efers to its thickness, not its functionality .

If you encounter too much resistance, do not forc e the car d. Check the card orientation and try again. Solving Problems 69 A driver acts like a translator between the device and any other programs that use the device. Each device has its own set of specialized commands that only its driver recognizes. Dell ships your computer to you with requir ed driv ers already installed—no further installation or configuration is needed.
