INTRODUCTION 1 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The DS2200 scann er is a cost effective barcode r eader complete with decode r designed to satisf y demanding requirements associated with high performance scanning.
DS2200 1 A security system allo ws the laser to activate onl y once the motor has reached the correct rotational speed; conseque ntly, the laser beam is generated after a slight delay from the power on of the scanner.

DS2200 2 The Master scanner is also conn ected to the Host on the RS232 auxiliar y serial interface. The External Trigger signal is unique to the system; there is a single reading p hase and a single message from the Master scanner to the Host computer.
INSTALLATION 2 2.5.3 Multiplexer Each scanner is connecte d to a Multiplexer (for e xample MX4000) with the RS485 half-duplex main interface. 1 2 3 RS485 Main Interface Auxiliary Interface (Local Echo.
DS2200 3 3 READING FEATURES The number of scans performed on the c ode by the D S2200 and therefore th e decoding capabilit y is influenced by the following parameters: • number of scans per second .
READING FEATURES 3 For example, the DS2200 (500 sca ns/sec.) for a 25 mm high code moving at 50 0 mm/s performs: [(25/500) * 500] - 2 = 23 effective scans.

GLOSSARY Ape rt ur e Term used on the required CDRH warning labels to describe the laser exit windo w. Barcode A pattern of variable- width bars and spaces which represents numeric or alphanumeric data i n machine-readable fo rm.
EEPROM Electrically Erasable Progra mmable Read-Only Memory. An on-board non-volati le memory chip. Full Duplex Simultaneous, two-way, indep endent transmission in both directions. Half Duplex Transmission in either directi on, but not sim ultaneously.
Protocol A formal set of conventions governing th e formatting and relative timing of message exchange bet ween two communicating systems. Raster The process of projecting the laser be am at varied angles spaced evenl y from each other. Typically, the mirrore d rotor surfaces are angle d to create multiple scan lines instead of a single beam.
Symbol A combination of characters inclu ding start/stop and checksum characters, as required, that form a complete scannable barcode. Tilt Rotation around the Z ax is. Used to describe the positi on of the barcode with respect to the laser scan line.
