06656 1 Intr oduction Ke yboard W edge Mode As a keyboard wedge inter face, the PSC scanner can be used with ter - minals pr ovided by most of the major terminal manufactur ers. In most cases, the PSC s canner is easily connected between the key - board and display of the terminal.

4 User’s / Programming Guide Serial Comm unications The PSC scanner pr ovides the user with two differ ent serial commu - nications options: Serial TTL and Serial RS232 communications. Serial TTL Mode Serial TTL is a serial communications interface that uses TTL/CMOS voltage levels ranging from 0 to 5 volts.
06656 5 Au t o S e n s e ® Operation AutoSense ® is a factory installed feature r equested at time of order . It provides for hands-free or handheld ope ration. AutoSense ® is acti - vated by scanning th e Enable AutoSense ® symbol. The scanner will re spond by emitting a continuous, low level red beam of light known as the trigger beam.

06656 17 CTS Like XON/XOFF pr otocol, CTS pr otocol is a mechanism used to con - trol data flow out. The CTS inpu t is used to inform the scanner that the host terminal is ready to accept scanned data. Wh en CTS (+) pro - tocol is selec ted, the scanner waits for a low level on its CTS input befor e transmitting data .
18 User’s / Programming Guide Another flow contr ol option is available. If enabled, the stop /go pr o - tocol disables the trigger after ev ery successfu l scan. The trigger is then r e-enabled with a serial ‘BG’ command in format <STX><ESC>BG<ETX>.
06656 19 Label Buffering The user may select one of three levels of serial buffering. W ith Full Buf fering (the default) selected, the scanner will place all scanned labels into a buff er for transmission. This allows the operator to con - tinue scanning even though the pr evious label may not have been transmitted yet.

Cho osing an intercharacte r delay causes the characters to be sent at the slower speed r equir ed by the device to which you are interfacing.

An example of a prefix is the STX (Start of T ransmis sion) code. IA Prefix = None*# IB Prefix = STX IC Prefix = SOH Suffix A suf fix is a subset of the Postamble.

Scan the MJ label, then scan tw o labels from t he Hexadecimal Con - version T able repr esenting the character needed for the suf fix. Certain specialized applications requ ire a two character suf fix of ETB NUL.
28 User’s / Programming Guide Code Identifier A code identifier may optionally be t ransmitted with the message. This option is provided so a host computer can identify the type of bar code scanned, as well as the encoded information. Scan Option F A to disa ble the code identifier .

06656 31 Serial Commands General Serial Command Format Serial Commands are only accepted by the PSC scanner when in serial communications mode. Serial commands take the form: S T X ESC L T1 L T2 <option al param - eters>ETX (Note: STX = ^B; ETX = ^C) STX, ESC, and ETX are ASCII codes whose values ar e 02H, 1BH, and 03H, respectively .
