Before y ou begin… Make sure that any existing Firewall Software/Devices are d isabled and/or shutdow n before beg inning install ation of y our new D-Link DI-704P Broadband R outer.
First, p lug in the powe r supply as shown. Plug the o ther end of th e power supply into the pow er sou rce. Flip the POWER togg le switch to the ON pos ition . (During a s elf-test pha se, the indicator l ights wil l flash brie fly. At the end of th e self -test, th e M1 indicator l ight will flash co ntinuously to indica te normal ope ration.
Make sure that TCP/IP protocol ha s been installed in your com puter . Next, set the TCP/IP protocol to “Obtain an I P Address automa tically” by doing the following : • Go to Start>Settings .
• Use the “pu ll- down menu” on thi s screen to display the Etherne t card that i s installed in your com puter and connected to the DI- 704P. The IP Address (for th e Ethern et network ada pter) that appears in t his window must be betwe en 192.
Type “ad min” in the “System Passwo rd” fie ld. Click on “Log in ” Click on “Setup ” -5- Configuring the DI-704P with the W eb br owse r.
Click “Change” (Please see sepa rate inst ructions b elow for D SL and Cable u sers.) For DSL user s: Select “ PPP over Ethernet” if y ou are using a PPPoE client to connect to your DSL prov ider (conta ct your DS L prov ider if you a re uncerta in.
For DSL users (con tin ued): Enter th e PPPoE Account and Password that y our ISP ass igned to you. Lea ve t he pas swor d fi eld blan k if you d o n ot wa nt t o cha nge the pas swor d. Input the PPPoE Service Name if your I SP requires i t. Set the Max imum Id le Time.
For Cable U sers: Select “Dynam ic IP Address.” Click “Save.” Enter th e “Host Name ” giv en to you by y our cable p rovider (for exam ple, “@ Hom e.”) For informa tion on conf iguring a back -up dial-u p modem, please s ee the “Configura tion” sect ion of your Use r’s Manual.
To check th e connec tion, op en the web browse r and g o to your fav orite web site. If you are un able to brows e, please do th e following : 1. Refer to Append ix B to check your conne ction. 2. Use “Help” on t he Main Menu. 3. Refer to the troublesho oting section in the use r’s manual.
NOTE: Installing the Pri nt Server softwa re i s only necessary if you p lan to use the Pr int Server function of th e D-Link DI-704P. If you choos e to use the pr int server function , plug the pr inter cable from you r print er into t he printer por t on the DI-704P, i f you have not alre ady done so.
To sele ct the def ault folde r, Click “N ext” Note: It is recommended that you cl ick “Nex t” in th e above window. Howev er, if necessary, Cl ick “Browse” to se lect a n alternat e folde r. When this window is d isplayed, Click “ Finish ,” to comp lete the Setu p.
Select “Yes , I want t o restart my computer.” Click “ OK” After th e compu ter has res tarted, th e Print Server software in stal lation is c omplet e. Note: If you r printer is not installed, go t o START>SETTINGS>PRINTERS . Double C lick on the “Add Print er” icon.
Choose the “Deta ils” tab. (In Windows 2000 or NT, choose the “Ports” tab.) At th e “Add Port” p ull-down m enu, choose “D-Link L PT port (Prin t Server.)” Please m ake sure th e proper prin ter driver is selec ted . Click “Port S ettings.
Type in the “IP add ress” of th e DI- 704P. Click “ OK” In the prev ious window, m ake sure the setting s are correc t. Click “ OK” You have completed config uring your prin ter. Go to START>SETTINGS>CO NTROL P ANEL Double-cl ick the “networ k” icon.
To manually input th e IP Addres s, please do the follow ing: In t h e “TCP/IP Properties” window, under the “I P Address” ta b, Select “Specify an IP address. ” The defau lt IP Address of t his product is 192.168.0.1 Please use 192.1 68.0.
From the desk top, go to Start>Run Type “command” in the box. Click “ OK” The follow ing MS- DOS Prompt window will appea r. Type “ping 192.
