4 Introduction The D-Link DKVM-16 is a Keyboard, Video and Mouse KVM switch that allows you to control up to 16 server computers using one keyboard, mouse, and monitor .

7 Hardware Inst allation (Continued) Find a convenient place to place your DKVM-16 . Its 19" rack mount form fac- tor makes it mountable on a 19" rack. When mounting to a rack, attach the included brackets to the side p anels of the DKVM-16 .
8 Hardware Inst allation (Continued) Connect the keyboard console to the DKVM-16 . If you have an A T type key- board, you will need an A T to PS/2 adapter . Connect the mouse console to the DKVM-16 . If you have an older mouse with 9 pins, you will need to use the 9 to 5 pin mouse converter that is included with the DKVM-16 .
9 Hardware Inst allation (Continued) Step 5 Step 6 Connect one end of the included VGA cable (15-pin HDDB Male / Male) to the female connectors on the back of the PC. Connect the other end of the cable to the rear panel of the DKVM-16 . This step can be repeated for all PCs.
10 Hardware Inst allation (Continued) Step 7 Using the included 3-in-1 cable, locate the keyboard connector (purple) and connect one end to the PS/2 keyboard port on the back panel of the computer , and the other end to the PC1 PS/2 keyboard port on the back panel of the DKVM-16 .
11 Hardware Inst allation (Continued) Step 1 1 Now power up all computers simultaneously . The first computer will be shown on the monitor . Y ou may check to see if the mouse, keyboard, and monitor work after the computer has booted up.
12 Using the DKVM-16 The “Power On” St ate of the DKVM-16 When you power on the KVM switch, it will prompt you for the password; the default value is eight zeros – “00000000”. Please enter eight zeros and enter the same value in the retype field.
13 Using the DKVM-16 (Continued) The Reset Button Pressing the select and bank button of the master switch simultaneously will reset the KVM switch. This reset action returns the KVM switch back to the initial state and will also recheck all of the slave banks which are connected to the master DKVM-16 .
14 Note: Bank no. and port no. selection must be made using the numeric keys on the keyboard. Numeric keys on the keypad are not available as a hot key command. Note: If you are trying to access a single digit port no. precede the port no. with a zero (0).
15 Using the DKVM-16 (Continued) Hot Key Commands (Continued) This screen will appear on your monitor Note: The Rom reflash command will take approximately 1-2 minutes.
16 Daisy-Chaining the DKVM-16 Connect your keyboard, mouse, and monitor to the console port (white color block) of the master KVM bank (bank1). Please closely follow the steps below to daisy-chain your DKVM-16 unit s. Y ou can daisy chain up to 8 DKVM-16 s.
17 Hot Plug The DKVM-16 supports the “Hot Plug” function for easy addition or removal of PCs. The user can arrange or maintain PCs as follows: 1. A PC can be disconnected and reconnected to the same or different port of the DKVM-16 without having to power it off as long as it is not the master daisy-chain port.
18 On Screen Display Operation When you select the On Screen Display Operation manual window using the “Hot Key” function, the following on screen display will appear on your monitor . BA NK : 1 Bank number PC Name List. Factory de- fault names are listed.
19 On Screen Display Operation (Continued) CHANGE P ASSWORD The Change Password function allows the user to change the password used to access all connected PC systems. The default password is 8 digits, “00000000”. The Enter Password window appears when you select this item and press enter .

21 T roubleshooting General Problems Monitor/VideoProblems Q: The OSD menu does not display a “ “ on a channel where a computer is connected and powered up. A: DKVM-16 updates “ “ every 2 seconds. Use the hot key to access the OSD menu again and it should re-detect all the active channels.
22 Check the cables and make sure that they are connected prop- erly to the correct ports. T roubleshooting (Continued) Keyboard Problems Q: The keyboard is not detected or a keyboard error is reported during boot-up. A: ! Check to make sure that the power adapter is plugged in and is working properly .
