TRACTOR SET-UP Moving The Tractor Manually Yourtractor's transmission is equippedwith a hydrostatic relief valve for occasions when it is necessary to movethe tractor manually. Open- ing this valve permits the fluid in the transmission to bypass its normal route, allowing the rear tiresto "freewheel.
Connecting the Battery Cables Checking Tire Pressure Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories containlead and leadcompounds, chemicals knownto the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm.
Setting the Deck Gauge Wheels and Roller Movethe tractor on a firm and level surface, preferably pavement, and proceed as follows 1. Selectthe height positionof the cutting deck by placing the deck lift lever in the normally desired mowingheight setting (any of the eleven different cutting height notches on the right fender).

DECK LiFT LEVER Found on your tractor's right fender, the deck lift lever is used to change the height of the cutting deck. To use, movethe lever to the left, then place in the notchbest suitedfor your application. IGNITION SWITCH MODULE To start the engine, insert the key into the ignition switchand turn clockwise to the START position.
PTO / BLADE ENGAGE KNOB Activating the PTO engages power to the cutting deck or other (separately available) attachments. Pull outward on the PTO/BladeEngage knob to activateit. Push the PTO/Blade Engage knob inward to disengage the power to the cutting deck or other (separately available) attachments.
SAFETY iNTERLOCK SWITCH ES This tractor is equipped with a safety interlock system for the protection of the operator. If the interlock system should ever malfunction, do not operate the tractor.
REVERSE CAUTION MODE The REVERSE CAUTION MODEposition of the key switch module allowsthe tractor to be operated in reverse with the blades (PTO) engaged. NOTE: Mowing in reverse is not recommended. Use extreme caution while operating the tractor in the REVERSE CAUTION MODE.
Cruise Control MOWING Neverengage the cruise controllever while traveling in reverse. To set the cruisecontrol: 1. Slowlypressthe upper portion of the drive pedalwith your right foot until the desired speed is achieved. 2. Lightlypressthe parking brake/cruise controllever downward and hold it in that position.
Before performing any typeof maintenance/service, disengage all controls andstopthe engine. Waituntil all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Disconnect spark plugwire andground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting. Always wear safety glasses during operation or while performing any adjustments or repairs.
NOTE: References to the right or left side of tractor are from the viewpoint of the operator facing forward from the tractor seat. CUTTING DECK REMOVAL To remove the cutting deck, proceed as follows: 1. Place the PTO/Blade Engageknob in the disengaged (OFF) positionand engagethe parking brake.
9. Remove the bowtie cotter pin connecting the deck sway rod to the tractor frame. See Figure 13. Rod Figure 13 10. Gentlyslide the cutting deck towardthe front of the tractor, carefully guidingthe hookson the deck off of the deck stabilizer rod. See Figure 14.
5. To place the new belt, begin by routing the belt around the two outer spindle pulleys, then aroundthe front spindle pulley as shownin Figure 16. F Z 8. 9. 10. f 11. Deck idler Front Spindle Pulley Outer Spindle Pulleys J Figure 16 Routethe belt aroundthe two deck idler pulleysas shownin Figure 16.
4. Jump Starting To properly sharpen the cutting blades, remove equal amounts of metalfrom both ends of the blades along the cutting edges, parallelto the trailing edge, at a 250 to 300 angle. Always grind each cutting bladeedge equally to maintain proper bladebalance.
FUSE Before servicing, repairing, or inspecting, always disengage PTO (BladeEngageknob), set parking brake, stop engineand remove to prevent unintended starting. A fuse is installed in your tractor's wiring harness to protect the trac- tor's electrical system from damage causedby excessive amperage.
Front Wheels Each of the front wheel axles and rims is equippedwith a grease fitting. See Figure 21. Lubricate with a No.2 multi-purpose grease appliedwith a grease gun after every25 hours of tractor operation.
Leveling the Deck (Side to Side) If the cutting deck appears to be mowingunevenly, a side to side adjustment can be performed. Adjustif necessary as follows: 1. Withthe tractor parked on a firm, level surface, place the deck lift lever in the top notch(highestposition)and rotateboth blades so that they are perpendicular with the tractor.
DECK REAR ROLLER ADJUSTMENT The rear rollers on the mowerdeck are not designed to carry the weightof the deck. The rear rollers should be adjustedto approxi- mately 1/4" to 1/2"above the groundwhen the deck is movedto the desired cutting height.
Changing the Engine Oil If the engine has been recently run, the engine, muffler and sur- rounding metal surfaces will be hot and can causeburns to the skin. Exercise caution to avoid burns. , 2. Remove the air filter cover. To remove the air filter, lift the end of the filter.
Fuel Filter Muffler Gasoline and its vaporsare extremely flammable and explosive. Fire or explosion can cause severe burns or death. • Keepgasoline awayfrom sparks, open flames, pilot lights, heat, and other ignition sources. • Check fuel lines, tank, cap, and fittingsfrequently for cracks or leaks.

PREPARING THE ENGINE IMPORTANT: Fuel left in the fuel tank duringwarm weather deterio- ratesand will cause seriousstarting problems.
Before performing any typeof maintenance/service, disengage all controls andstopthe engine. Wait until all moving parts have cometo a complete stop. Disconnect spark plugwire andground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting. Always wear safety glasses during operation or while performing any adjustments or repairs.
