All of the m enu commands, including those for opening palettes, list their shortcut keys.

Getting started 61 Connecting with image scanners Y our scanning software may allow you to choose an application for scanning images. Many TW AIN, WIA, and USB scanners are compatible w ith Corel PaintShop Pro.

Getting started 63 T o open a recently viewed file Edit workspace • Choose File Recent Files , and choose the filename. By default, the Recent Files menu lists four rece ntly viewed files. You can choose to lis t up to 10 files. For more information, see “To set the number of files th at appear in the Re cent Files list” on page 678.

The Camera RAW Lab dialog box opens. Th is dialog box lets you adjust the settings that are stored with the RAW photo f ile.
Getting started 65 For this rea son, this format is not recomme nd ed for editing photos unles s a high quality setti ng is used. This file format supports EXIF and IPTC data, whic h can be used to provide information a bout the photo, su ch as when a p hoto was taken.

This method works well with photorealistic images. When you save a new image, Corel PaintShop Pro lets you select its location, name, and file format.
Getting started 67 If you want to change the default settings for the file format (for example compression or color profile), click Options , and choose the settings you want. 5 Click Save . You can also save your work by c licking the Save As button on the Standard toolbar to avoid overwriting your current file.

Getting started 79 Capturing images from the computer screen Corel PaintShop Pro lets you capture images f rom your computer screen. Captured screens can then be em bedded in documents such as reports, training guide s, presentations, and Web pages.

Corel P aintShop Pro provides shar pening commands that improve blurry photos by in creasing the contrast of adjacent pixels.

Adjusting images 221 3I n t h e Halo group box, type or set a value in the following controls: • Amount — determines the strength of the halo effect. At lower values, the halo is added only to very bright areas in the ph oto. At higher values, a halo effect is crea ted around all bright areas.

Print resolution is defi ned as the number of pixe ls per inch (ppi). A higher print resolution creates smaller printed pixels and therefore a smaller printed image.
Adjusting images 223 What happens to pixels when you resample an image? When you use the Resize command to in crease the image dimensions , additional pixels must be interpolated from information in the existing pixels.

Adjusting images 225 The Copy Special command lets you copy th e image to the Clipboard in one of three si zes, depending on wh ether you are copy ing the image to print professionally , to print from your desktop, o r to copy to your computer screen o r an e-mail message.

Retouching and restoring images 229 Retouching and restoring images Corel PaintShop Pro provid es you with many ways to retouch your images. Whether you want to remove a small scrat ch, erase the entire background, or si mply correct red-ey e, you’ll find the tool s you need.
230 Corel PaintShop Pro X7 User Guide Removing red-eye Red-eye in photos is a commo n problem. When light from the camera’s fl ash reflects of f the retina of a phot o subject, a red-e ye effect is captured in the ph oto. Corel P aintShop Pro has two methods of removing red-eye from a color photo.
Retouching and restoring images 231 2 In the After preview area, drag to center the re d eyes of the subject. If ne cessary , use the Zoom control to see the eyes in more detail. 3 Choose a co lor variation option from the Hue and Color drop-lists. Note: The Hue drop-list is ava ilable only for the Auto Human Eye method.
232 Corel PaintShop Pro X7 User Guide reach the beginning po int. Y ou can reverse a click by right- clicking. After you select the eye, a circ le appears around the selected area, and a control box for mak ing adjustments encloses the circle. The After preview are a displays the corrected eye.
Retouching and restoring images 233 The Refine slider help s you correct red -eye when the e ye is partially obscured in the origin al photo. For example, if t he eyelid covers part of the eye in th e original photo, it should also cover that part of the eye in the corrected photo.
