1 Chapter 1: Valet User Guide Chapter 1: V alet Thank you f or choosing a Cisc o V alet wir eless hotspot. This Quick Reference Guide covers both the V alet and V alet Plus models. V alet will be used as a general ref erenc e t o both models and all details in this Q uick Reference Guide apply to both models unless V alet Plus is not ed.
2 Chapter 1: Valet User Guide Back The Internet P ort connects to the network (E thernet) cable from your Internet connection. I n most cases you will be connecting one end of the network cable to the Ethernet port on your cable or DSL modem and the other end to the Internet port on your V alet.
3 Chapter 1: Valet / Horizontal Placemen t The Valet has four rubber feet on its bottom panel. Place the V alet on a level surface near an electrical outlet. W all-Mounting Plac ement The V alet has two wall-mount slots on its bottom panel. The distance between the slots is 152 mm.

Cisco C onnect offers options t o c onnect additional computers or devices t o your Valet and allows y ou to modify the Valet’ s settings.
5 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide b. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. Connect to Electrical Outlet c. Plug one end of a network cable into the yellow port labeled Internet on the back of the V alet. The other end of the net work cable should plug in to your broadband modem or existing gateway/ router .
6 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide Guest Access allows you to provide guests visiting your home with I nt ernet access . Y our guests will not have access to your other computers or personal data. P rovide your guest with the Guest Network name and passwor d.
7 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide W ireless printer Click this option to connect a wireless printer . Go to “ W ireless printer ” on page 8. Other devices Click this option to connect a device that is not a computer , such as a smartphone or game console .
8 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide 3. Remove the Easy Setup Key and click Close . Y ou can now use it to connect other computers to the V alet. Refer to “ Connect with the Easy Setup K ey ” on page 7 to complete the pr ocess of adding another computer .

10 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide 3. The Parental c ontrols main screen appears . Manage Paren tal Controls Y ou have the following options: Restrict Internet access on The list of computer(s) you have selec ted for parental controls is displayed.
11 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide 3. The Block sites inappropriate for option allows you to block websites based on content. T he following options are available: • Don ’t Block Does not block any w ebsites. • T een Blocks websites that may be inappropriate for teenagers.

13 Chapter 2: Cisco C onnect User Guide 2. Complete the following: • V alet name Enter a name of 1-32 characters. • Passw ord Enter a passwor d of 8-63 characters.
14 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Chapter 3: A dvanc ed Configur ation After setting up the V alet with the Setup Wizard (located on the Setup Key), the Valet is ready for use. For more technically k nowledgeable users, the Valet does include Advanced C onfiguration settings.
15 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Internet Connection T ype Select the type of Internet connection y our ISP pr ovides from the drop-down menu.
16 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide • Specify an IP Addr ess This is the Valet’ s IP address as seen from the Internet. Enter the IP addr ess provided by your ISP . • Subnet Mask This is the V alet’ s Subnet Mask , as seen by users on the Internet (including your ISP).
17 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Device Name The default is Cisco follow ed by the last 5 digits of the Router ’ s serial number , which is found on the bottom of the Valet. If you used the setup soft war e for installation, then the Device Name is the name of y our wireless network (up to 15 characters).
18 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Static DNS 1-3 The Domain Name System (DNS) is how the Internet translates domain or website names into Internet addr esses or URLs.
19 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide TZO .com Setup > DDNS > TZO E-mail Address, TZO Key , and Domain Name Enter the email address , password, and domain name of the account y ou set up with TZ O . Internet IP Address The Valet’ s Internet IP address is displayed.
20 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Route Entries T o set up a static route bet ween the Valet and another network, select a number from the drop- down list. Click Delete This Entry to delete a static route . Enter Rout e Name Enter a name f or the Route , using a maximum of 25 alphanumeric characters.

Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings ( Wi-F i Pr otected Setup) NO TE: Wi-F i Protected Setup configures one client device at a time .
22 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Security M ode Select the security method for your wireless network: WP A2/WP A Mixed Mode, WP A2 Personal, WP A Personal, WP A2/WP A Enterprise Mixed Mode, WP A2 Enterprise, WP A Enterprise, WEP , RADIUS, or Disabled.
23 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide WP A2 Enterprise This option f eatures WP A2 used in c oordination with a RADIUS server . ( This should only be used when a RADIUS ser v er is connected to the Valet.
24 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide RADIUS NO TE: I f you select RADIUS as your Security Mode, each device in your wireless net w ork MUST use RADIUS and the same WEP encryption and shared key . Security Mode > RADIUS RADIUS Ser ver Enter the IP Address of the RADIUS server .

Wireless Client List Wir eless Client List This screen shows computers and other devices on the wireless network . The list can be sorted b y IP Address , MA C Address , Status, Interface, and Client Name .
26 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Beacon Interval Ent er a v alue between 1 and 65,535 milliseconds. The Beacon Inter val value indicates the frequency interval of the beacon. A beacon is a packet broadcast by the Valet to synchronize the wireless network.
27 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Securit y > VPN P assthrough The VPN Passthrou gh screen allows you to enable VPN tunnels using IPS ec , PPTP , or L2TP protocols to pass thr ough the V alet’ s firewall.
28 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Applications and Gaming > P or t Range F orwarding The Port Range Forwarding screen allow s you to set up public ser vices on your net w ork, such as web ser v ers, FTP ser vers, e -mail ser vers , or other specialized Internet applications.
29 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Applications and Gaming > DMZ The DMZ feature allows one network computer to be exposed to the Internet f or use of a special-purpose service such as Internet gaming or videoconferencing . DMZ hosting forwards all the por ts at the same time to one PC.

34 Chapter 3: Advanc ed Configura tion User Guide Administra tion > F irmw are Upgr ade The Firmw are Upgrade screen allows you to upgrade the V alet’ s firmware . Do not upgrade the firmware unless you are experiencing problems with the V alet or the new firmware has a f eature y ou want to use .
