With this scanner you can quickly scan paper items such as letters, forms, photos, or magazine articles and place their electronic images on your computer .

T o install the softwar e: 1. S tart Microsoft Windo ws and make sure no other applications ar e running .
S TEP 1: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE 7 3. On the installation menu, select Install ScanS oft P aperP or t and Scanner Driv er . 4. Make sure the boxes for Nu a n c e Pa p e r P o r t ® and Scanner Driv er are checked. If you also want to install the ArcS oft® Scrapbook Suite® software now , select it too.

If you have already r emoved the installation CD from your CD-R OM drive, insert the CD back into th e drive to access the user guides.

S CANNING FROM O NE T OUCH 17 S CANNING FROM O NE T OUCH OneT ouch is your main scanning in terface for using the scanner . The OneT ouch Buttons on the scanner mirror the software OneT ouch Button P anel. Changing the button se ttings on the OneT ouch Button P anel makes the same changes to the buttons on the scanner .

S CANNING FROM O NE T OUCH 19 S CANNING P APER D OCUMENTS OR P HOTOGRAPHS 1. Place an item face do wn on the glass. Align the bottom of the item with the scanner ’ s reference marks. F or custom sizes, align the edge of the item with the left side of the scanner glass.

S CANNING FROM O NE T OUCH 21 S CANNING P AGES IN A B OOK Y our OneT ouch 7400 USB scanner has an inno vativ e hinged lid so you can lay book s flat on the sca n ner glass to scan their pages. T o scan book pages: 1. Open the document co ver and place the book on the glass.

The scanner scans the item, then sends the image to the Destination A pplication indicated by the button ’ s icon.
S CANNING FROM O NE T OUCH 23 O NE T OUCH B UTTON P ANEL F EATURES The OneT ouch Button P anel is your on-s creen set of contr ols for the scanner . In addition, the pan el shows information about the scanner and its settings. Click the green arr ows at the top of the panel t o cycle back and forth through three views of the panel.

The icons indicate the Destin ation A pplications so you can see, at a glance, where the image will be sent when scanning is finished.

When you select the application using the B ro wse button, steps 1 and 2 on the dialog box are automatically filled in, and the application icon appears in step 3.

When you select the application using the B ro wse button, steps 1 and 2 on the dialog box are automatically filled in, and the application icon appears in step 3.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 37 S TORAGE P ROPERTIES These properties apply to the Destination Application named T ransfer to St orage. If a CD burner is atta ched to your computer , you can also use this dialog box to start the B urn to CD proce ss.
38 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 2. Click the Browse button to specify the location to stor e the scanned documents, or type a location directly into the bo x. If you are scanning to a shared networ k drive, it must be a mapped drive.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 39 EM AIL P ROPERTIES These properties apply to email applications so you can specify the folder for documents that you will attach to an email mes sage.
40 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 3. If you need to change your email client, or any other internet options, click the Internet Options button. The Window s Internet Options Control P anel opens. Click the P rograms tab and choose a new email client from the Email list.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 41 S ELECTING F ILE F ORMAT O PT IONS The option that you select determines the file format of the scanned document. Appropriate format options and file types are available for the type of Destination A pplication selected for the button.
42 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE T o select a JPEG or PDF file size: 1. Select JPG or PDF as the format. 2. Right-click on the JPG or PDF icon. A menu opens. 3. Choose the file size/image quality option for your scanned images.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 43 T EXT F ORMATS The T ext F ormats are for text file types. The names of the formats indicate their file types. Selecting the text format option also selects OCR processing as an automatic step for scanning.
44 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE T o select a file type for the text format: 1. Sele ct the Destina tion Applic ation. 2. Right- click on the tex t format icon. A menu opens. The following figu re shows an example for the TEXT format with Micr osoft Outlook selected as the Destination Application.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 45 S CANNING WITH O PTICAL C HARACTER R ECOGNITION (OCR) Optical Character Recognition (OCR) converts text and numbe rs on a scanned page into editab le text and numbers. Y ou can then work with the text and numbers to edit, spell check, change font or type size, sort, calculate, and so forth.
46 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 4. Select the option y ou want fo r the OCR conversion of your documents. Aut o or i en t pa g e —Select this option to check the page orientation and automa tically rotate an imprope rly oriented page image so the text is recognizable b y the OCR process.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 47 O NE T OUCH O PTIONS T AB F rom the OneT ouch Options tab you can choose what type of applications appear in each button ’ s tab destination list. Show or hide the scanning progr ess window when scanning from OneT ouch.
48 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE Select Destinations —Select this option to individually choose the types of applications to include in the list of Destination Applications. Check the bo xes for the type of application to include.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 49 Cr eate copies of scanned documents —S ometimes the image of a scanned document is only saved as a temporar y file until its Destination Application is finished using it. In those cases you may or may not want an additional, pe rmanent copy saved on your har d drive.
50 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE Fo l d e r C o p y O p t i o n s —This section of the dialog box sets the location for copies of your scanned documents and how you want to group them. T o specify another location for copies, click the Brow se button and find the folder you want to use for the copie s.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 51 C REATING A N EW S CAN C ONFIGURATION The scan configurations are where you select the scanning r esolution, brightness, mode (color , black&white, or grayscale), and a number of other settings. N ote the lock icon on the preset configurations.
52 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE appears for any other buttons set for image editors, but not for buttons set for text editing appl ications. Thus, you can create specific sets of scan configuratio ns for specific functions and they appear only when appropriate.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 53 2. Select scan settings for the new scan configuration. ■ M ode —Select a s canning mode: Black&White to scan in black and wh ite. F or example, letters and memos are usually scanned in black and white.

C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 55 5. Click the Advanced S ettings tab. T HE A DVANCE D S ETTINGS T AB The options of the Advanced S ettings tab are for the Color or G rayscale scanning mode. 1. Drag the sliders to the left and ri ght to change the color settings.

C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 57 AutoR otate image for best fit —If the imag e is a Landscape format and the device is printing in the P o rtrait mode, or vice versa, rotate the image to fit on the page. Collate copies —If y ou ’ re printing mor e than one page, collate the copies.
58 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 1. Click on the Storage Opti ons tab. 2. Click the S torage Layout opt ions you want. All documents are in the root —The scanned documents ar e saved in the root of the folder spec ified in the St orage Location.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 59 E DITING OR D ELETING S CAN C ONFIGURATIONS Y our scanner comes with a number of configurations pre-set at the f a c t o r y . T o e n s u r e t h a t y o u r s c a n n e r will always have a set of correct scan configuration s, do not delete the preset configurations.
60 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 4. T o edit the configuration, click the Edit button. The Scan Configuration P roperties dialog box opens for that configuration. Y ou can make changes to a configuration, but for the changes to be saved, the configuration must fi rst be unlocked.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 61 C ONFIGURE B EFORE S CA N Y ou can set up a button so that, when you press that button or click it on the Button P anel, a different scanning interface opens before the scanning starts.Y ou can then use the interface to select new settings or scanning options.
62 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 4. Right-click on Configure Befor e Scan and choose an interface to use for configuring before scanning. TW AIN —The Ba sic Interface or Advanced Interface opens for you to configure the scanning.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 63 3. The Basic TW AIN interface will open. 4. Choose your scan settings, such as the Pictur e T ype of Color , G rayscale or Black & White, Resolution in DP I, and P age Size. 5. Click on the Sc an button in the TW AIN interface.
64 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 5. Click on the Done button when yo u ar e finished scanning all the pages in your document. 6. All of the pages you scanned will be sent to the Destination Application set in the O neT ouch Properties window .
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 65 ■ No —scanning stops, but all pages scanned in this batch, up to this point, are not deleted. Y ou can place a new page on the flatbed glass, adjust the TW AIN settings for the new page, then click on the Scan button in the TW AIN interface to continue scanning.
66 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE S CAN AND B URN TO A CD If you have a CD burne r attached to your Windows XP or W indows Vista computer , you can scan directly from your scanner onto a CD. T o scan and burn to a CD: 1.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 67 4. Choose a P age F ormat and a Scan Configuration. See the notes on page 68 for mo re information about the scan configurations when the Destinat ion Application is Burn to CD. 5. Click OK . The OneT ouch P roperties window closes .

C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 69 S CANNING WITH E VENT F ORWARDING Y ou use event for warding to specify another application to use for scanning before yo u start. A typical example is if you want to use another application ’ s interface to sele ct scanning options before you start scanning.
70 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 5. Click OK . The OneT ouch P roperties window closes . 6. S tart scanning using the button you selected for event forwarding. A dialog box opens for you to select the application to use for scanning.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 71 C REATING AN HTML W EB P AGE FROM Y OUR S CANNED D OCUMENTS Y ou can conver t scanned pages to HTML format for posting directly to your web site. Those pages are t hen viewable by visitors to your web site without the need for any interne t pl ug-ins or other special processing.

C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 73 T RANSFERRING S CANNED D OCUMENTS TO S TORAGE With the T ransfer to S torage scanni ng process, you can scan documents and save them in a folder in one st ep. The process is ideal for archiving documents without having to manuall y save or process them in any other way .
74 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE S CANNING TO M ULTIPLE F OLDERS When archiving documents with the Archive butt on with the T ransfer to S torage as the Destination A pplication, you can scan the documents to multiple folders.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 75 4. Select T r ansfer to Storage as the D estination A pplication. 5. Click the Ne w button. The Scan Configuration P roperties dialog box opens. 6. Click the Scan Settings , P age Settings , and Advanced S ettings tabs, and select the settings y ou want.
76 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 8. Click the Browse button. 9. Select the folder y ou created for storing the scanned documents. If you haven ’ t created the folder y et, you can click the Make New Fo l d e r button and type the name for the new folder .
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 77 13. Make sur e to designate separate folders as the S torage Locations for the new configurations. Y ou will now hav e multiple configurations set up for the T ransfer to S torage destination, and each configuration stores scanned documents in separate folders.
78 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 5. Click OK . The OneT ouch P roperties window closes. The OneT ouch panel will show the name of the configuration. 6. Scan the documents you want to store. The documents ar e scanned to the folder specified for the configuration.
C ONFIGURIN G THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON O PTIONS 79 T RANSFER D OCUMENTS TO A S ER VER OR M APPED D RIVE When selecting the storage location for scanne d documents, you can select a local folder , or a folder on a server or mapped drive. Y ou select a mapped drive using the Browse button.
80 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 3. Select a storage location on th e mapped drive or s erver for the scanned documents. Servers and mapped drives ar e repr es ented by an icon that indicates its network connection. 4. Click OK .
S CANNING FROM THE TWAIN I NTERFACE 81 S CANNING FROM THE TW AIN I NTERFACE Y ou ca n scan from any TW AIN sc anning application instead of scanning from the OneT ouch buttons on your scanner or using the OneT ouch button panel. A N OTE A BOUT THE TW AIN S TANDARD Y our scanner uses the T W AIN inte rface to scan photographs and documents.
82 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 7400 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE A CCESSING THE TW AIN I NTERFACE As previously stated, you can access the TW AIN inter face from any TW AIN complia nt scanning application. Y ou can configure any of your OneT ouch buttons to automatically open the TW AIN interface when you press a butt on on the scanner .

The resolut ion setting for a sc an is in dots-per-inch (dpi).
