STEP 1: I NSTALLING THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 5 3. F ollow the instructions on the screen to install the P aperP or t software on your computer . Later , after the scanner is wor king, you can install the other applications pr ovided on the CD. 4. During installation, a message will tell y ou to connect the scanner to the computer .

STEP 2: C ONNECTING THE S CANNER TO THE C OMPUTER 7 When you plug the scanner ’ s power adapter into a wall outlet an amber light on the front of the scanner comes on indicating that the scanner is receiving po wer . The light remains amber until the scanner and computer are communicating pr operly .

The OneT ouch scanner software adds the scanner icon to the Windows taskbar (at the bottom right corner of the computer scr een).

20 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 5300 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE A BOUT THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS The OneT ouch buttons are pre-configur ed to scan items at various settings, and then send the scanned image to a pr e-selected software application. Y ou can change the settings for each button ex cept the S top/Cancel button.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 21 C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS Each button setting can be changed to optimiz e the scanner for the type of scanning you want to do . T o change a button ’ s settings: 1. P ress and hold down the button that y ou want to change (except the S top/Cancel button).
22 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 5300 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 2. Click the tab of the button you want to change, if it isn ’ t already selected. 3. Scroll the list of A pplication to Send Scanned Data T o and click the new application you want to use to view and wor k with the scanned image.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 23 If you want to select a confi guration prior to scanning, click the option, Configure befor e Scanning. Then, when you press a scanner button, the V isioneer Scan Manager appears first and you can select a configuration before scanning.
24 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 5300 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE A DJUSTING S CAN S ETTINGS AND P AGE S ETTINGS If you ’ re scanning using a scan configuration that y ou define yourself , you can adjust that configuration ’ s scan settings and page settings.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 25 3. If you hav en ’ t defined a configuration yet, click the Ne w button to create a new configuration. Y ou can also select one of the pr edefined configurations and then click the Copy button to copy it. 4. Click the Edit button.
26 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 5300 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE Resolution —D rag the slider to the right or left to adjust the dots per inch (dpi) of the resolution. The maximum resolution is 600 dpi, the minimum is 50 dpi. The higher the dpi setting, the sharper and clearer the scanned image.
C HANGING THE B UTTON S ETTINGS 27 DeScr een —Select this option when scanning a pictur e from a newspaper or magazine article, or other item that contains images with patterns or dots. Scans of patterns or dots sometimes hav e a distorted or wavy appearance.
28 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 5300 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE Instead of using the scanner ’ s buttons, you can scan dir ectly from the P aperP or t software. This is particularly helpful when you ’ re using P aperP or t to file and save your scanned items.
S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 29 S CANNING AN I TEM WITH THE T WAIN B UTTON The following pr ocedure pro vides the basic steps for scanning an item using the T wain button in the P aperP or t software. Y ou can scan many types of items, from small business car ds to A4-sized pages.

S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 31 M ode —F rom left to right the three modes ar e color , grayscale, and black-and-white. The same symbols next to the pre-set options indicate their mode setting. Click a mode to select it for the scan. Res —This is the resolution setting for the scan in dots-per-inch (dpi).

When you ’ re satisfied with the image settings, click the Scan button. The scanner now r e-scans the item and displays the final image as a thumbnail on the P aperP ort Desktop.
S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 33 T HE P REDEFINED S CAN S ETTINGS Selecting the pr oper scan setting before final scanning pr ovides the best results for a scanned item. The scan setting determines the sharpness of the item and the number of possible shades of gray or color .
34 V ISIONEER O NE T OUCH 5300 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE A DJUSTING THE B RIGHTNESS AND C ONTRAST Sometimes an item is scanned with the brightness and contrast set to be too light or too dark. F or example, a note written with a light pencil may need to be scanned darker to impr ove legibility .

See the H elp information for more details about the A dvanced Settings dialog box. C LEANING THE S CANNER G LASS Scanning items that have ex cessive amounts of dirt or dust may dirty the glass.
