Getting to Know Yo ur Wi re l ess Ro ut er 1 Getting to Know Y our Wireless Router Congratulations on your purchase of a NETGEAR® high-speed wireless router , the W i reless -N 300 Modem Router DGN 2200. Before you begin installing your rout er , check the package contents (see “Unpacking Y our New Router” on page 1 ).
Getting to Kno w Your Wi re less Router 2 T o prep are your router for inst allation: 1. Orient your wireless-N modem router vertically . 2. Insert the tabs of the stand into the slot s on the bottom of yo ur router as shown in Figure 1 .
Getting to Kno w Your Wi re less Router 3 Router Front Panel The wireless-N modem router front pane l shown below contains status LEDs. Y ou can use the LEDs to verify status and conn ections. The following table lists and describes each LED and button on the front panel of the wireless-N modem router.

V iewed from left to right, the rear panel contains the following elements: 1. USB port for thumb drives, file servers and ot her storage devices so that you can share media through the USB port.

9 Inst alling Y our Router Using the Smart Wizard T o use the Smart W izard, you must be usin g a PC with W indows 7, W indows V ista, or W indows XP , or W indows 2000 with Service Pack 2. The Smart W izard setup procedure should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Connect any additional wired PCs to your router by inserting an Ethernet cable from a PC into one of the three re maining LAN ports. V erifying Y our Connection V erify that your router is connected correctly by checking the wireless-N modem router status lights.

Configuring Your Wireless Network 21 Setting Y our SSID and Wireless Security Manually T o specify the wireless settings, you must know the following: • SSID. The default SSID for the router is NETGE AR. • The wireless mode (802.1 1g/b, or 802.1 1n ) that each wireless adapter supports.
Configuring Your Wireless Network 22 T o set up you r computers for wireless conne ct ivity: 1. Program the wireless settings of each computer or wireless adapter to have the same SSID (wireless network name) as the router . 2. Check that the wireless adapter on each comput er can support the mode and security option that you selected.

These instructions assume that you are config uring WPS on the router for the first time and connecting a WPS-capable device.

Troubleshooting 26 T roubleshooting This chapter gives information about troubleshooting your wireless-N modem router. After each problem description, instructions ar e provided to help you dia gnose and solve the problem. For the common problems listed, go to the section indicated.
Troubleshooting 27 Power LED Not On If the Power and other LEDs are off wh en your router is turned on : • Make sure that the power cord is properly conn ected to your router and that the power supply adapter is properly connected to a functioning power outlet.
Troubleshooting 28 Cannot Log in to the Router If you are unable to log in to the router from a computer on yo ur local network, check the following: • If you are using an Ethernet-c onnected computer , check the Et hernet connec tion between the computer and the router as described in the previous section.
Troubleshooting 29 ADSL Link LED If your router is unable to access the Internet, you should first determine whethe r you have an ADSL link with the service provider . The state of this connection is indi cated with the ADSL link LED. ADSL Link LED Is Off If the ADSL Link LED is off, disconnect all teleph ones on the line.
Troubleshooting 30 • Check that your log-in credentials are correct, or that the information you entered on the Basic Settings screen is correct. • Check with your ISP to verify that the Multiplexing method, VPI, and VCI settings on the ADSL settings screen are correct.
Troubleshooting 31 T roubleshooting PPPoE or PPPoA The PPPoE or PPPoA co nnection can be debugged as follows: 1. Access the main menu of the router at http://192.168.0.1 . 2. Under Maintenance, select Router S tatus . 3. Click Connection S tatus . If all of the steps indicate “OK” then your PPPoE or PPPoA connecti on is up and working.
Troubleshooting 32 T roubleshooting a TCP/IP Network Using the Ping Utility Most TCP/IP terminal devices and routers contain a ping utility that sends an echo request packet to the designated device. The device then respond s with an echo reply . T roubleshooting a TCP/IP network is made easy by using th e ping utility in your computer .
Troubleshooting 33 – V erify that the IP address for your router an d your workstation are correct and that the addresses are on the same subnet. T esting the Path from Y ou r Computer to a Remote Device After verifying that the LAN path works correctly , test the path from your PC to a remote device.
