THEOR Y OF OPERA TION E-2 E-2 INVERTEC® V450-PRO POWER SOURCE GENERAL DESCRIPTION The INVERTEC® V450-PRO is an inverter based welding power source that is designed to be a multi- process welding system. It is a high performance, dig- itally controlled inverter capable of complex, high- speed waveform control.
THEOR Y OF OPERA TION SWITCH BOARDS AND MAIN TRANSFORMER There are two switch boards in the INVERTEC® V450- PRO, each containing an input capacitor and insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) switching circuitry .
THEOR Y OF OPERA TION E-4 E-4 INVERTEC® V450-PRO CONTROL BOARD & MODE SELECTION The control board performs the primary interfacing functions to establish and maintain output control of the INVERTEC® V450-PRO.
THEOR Y OF OPERA TION E-5 E-5 INVERTEC® V450-PRO OUTPUT RECTIFIER AND CHOKE The output rectifier receives the AC output from the main transformer secondary and rectifies it to a DC voltage level.
THEOR Y OF OPERA TION E-6 E-6 INVERTEC® V450-PRO THERMAL PROTECTION T wo normally closed (NC) thermostats protect the machine from excessive operating temperatures.
THEOR Y OF OPERA TION E-7 E-7 INVERTEC® V450-PRO INSULA TED GA TE BIPOLAR TRANSIST OR (IGBT) OPERA TION An IGBT is a type of transistor . IGBT are semiconduc- tors well suited for high frequency switching and high current applications. Example A in Figure E.
THEOR Y OF OPERA TION E-8 E-8 INVERTEC® V450-PRO PULSE WIDTH MODULA TION The term Pulse Width Modulation is used to describe how much time is devoted to conduction in the positive and negative portions of the cycle. Changing the pulse width is known as modulation.
