5 ENGLISH 4 Adjust the sound as you want. (See pages 13 and 14.) T o drop the volume in a moment Press briefly while listening to any source. “A TT” star ts flashing on the display , and the volume le vel will drop in a moment. T o resume the previous v olume lev el, press the button briefly again.
6 ENGLISH Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds. “ CLOCK H, ” “ CLOCK M, ” “ LEVEL, ” or “ EXT IN ” * appears on the display . * Displayed only when FM, AM, or CD is selected as the sour ce. 2 Set the hour .
7 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM 1 – 3, AM).
8 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong- station Sequential Memo.
9 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM) manually . Ex.: Storing FM station of 92.5 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM) you want to store stations into (in this example, FM1).
10 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS All trac ks will be play ed repeatedly until you stop playbac k. Note: When a CD is inserted upside down, “EJECT” and the CD–in indicator flash on the display and the CD automatically ejects. T o stop play and eject the CD Press 0 .
11 ENGLISH Locating a track or a particular portion on a CD T o fast-forward or reverse the track T o go to the next or previous tracks T o go to a particular track directly Press the number button corresponding to the track n umber to star t its playbac k.
12 ENGLISH Prohibiting CD ejection Y ou can prohibit the CD ejection and can loc k a CD in the loading slot. While pressing CD (CD-CH), press and hold 0 f or more than 2 seconds. “EJECT” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the CD is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
13 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Selecting preset sound modes (C-EQ: custom equalizer) Y ou can select a preset sound mode (C-EQ: custom equalizer) suitab le to the music genre. Select the sound mode you want. When you press the b utton once, the last selected sound mode is recalled and applied to the current source.
14 ENGLISH 2 Adjust the setting. 3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 to adjust the other items. T o reset each sound mode to the factory settings, repeat the same procedure and reassign the preset values listed in the tab le on page 13.
15 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Selecting the level meter Y ou can select the lev el display according to y our preference . When shipped from the factory , “A UDIO 2” is selected. 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H, ” “CLOCK M, ” “LEVEL, ” or “EXT IN”* appears on the display .
16 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
17 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS About MP3 discs MP3 “ files (tracks) ” can be recorded in “ f olders ” —in PC terminology . During recording, the files and folders can be arranged in a wa y similar to arranging files and folders of computer data.
18 ENGLISH • When the current disc is a CD: Playbac k star ts from the first trac k of the current disc. Notes: • When you press CD (CD-CH), the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to press to turn on the power . • If you change the sour ce, CD changer play also stops.
19 ENGLISH Press 5 (up) while pla ying an MP3 disc, to go to the ne xt folder . Each time you press the b utton consecutively , the next folder is located, and the first file in the folder starts playbac k. Press ∞ (down) while pla ying an MP3 disc, to go to the pre vious folder .
20 ENGLISH T o play back tracks/files repeatedly (T rack Repeat/Disc Repeat Play) 1 Press M (MODE) to enter the functions mode during play . 2 Press RPT (repeat), while still in the functions mode, so that “ TRK RPT ” or “ DISC RPT ” appears on the display .
21 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 (not supplied).
22 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a ser vice center . Symptoms • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers . • The unit does not work at all. • SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory) automatic preset does not work.
23 ENGLISH Remedies Inser t discs into the magazine. Inser t discs correctly . Inser t pla yable discs . Inser t a disc that contains MP3 files. Inser t the magazine. Add the e xtension code — mp3 to their file names. Change the disc. (Record MP3 files using a compliant application.
24 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), and CD-R Ws (Rewritable). • This unit is not compatible with MP3 discs, but can operate a JVC MP3-compatib le CD changer .
