8 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS 3 Start searching a station. When a station is received, searching stops. T o stop searching before a station is received, press the same button y ou have pressed f or searching.
9 ENGLISH Searching a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the tuner as the source. • The last selected station is tuned in. 2 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM) if neccessary . Note: This receiver has thr ee FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3). Y ou can use any one of them to listen to an FM br oadcast.
10 ENGLISH Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number you ha ve selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3). These stations are preset in the number buttons — No .1 (lowest frequency) to No .6 (highest frequency).
11 ENGLISH 4 Press and hold the number button (in this example, 1) for more than 2 seconds. 5 Repeat the above procedure to store other stations into other preset numbers. Notes: • A pr eviously pr eset station is erased when a new station is stor ed in the same pr eset number .

15 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “ files (tracks) ” can be recorded in “ directories (folders) ”—in PC terminology . During recording, the files and directories can be arranged in a wa y similar to arranging files and directories/folders of computer data.

18 ENGLISH T o go to a particular directory directly IMPORT ANT : T o directly select the director ies using the number button(s), it is required that directories are assigned 2 digit numbers at the beginning of their director y names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD-Rs or CD-RWs.
19 ENGLISH Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Random Play) Y ou can pla yback all trac ks on MP3 disc at random. Each time you press MO RND (monaural/random) while pla ying an MP3 disc, the random pla y mode changes as follo ws.
20 ENGLISH RPT 1 Lights The current file (or specified file). RPT 2 Flashes All files of the current directory (or specified directory). 21 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference . 2 Adjust the level. Note: Normally , the contr ol dial works as the volume contr ol. So you do not have to select “VOL” to adjust the volume level.
22 ENGLISH Using the sound control memor y (SCM) Y ou can select and store a preset sound adjustment suitable f or each playbac k source (Advanced SCM). Selecting and storing the sound modes Once you select a sound mode , it is stored in memor y . It will be recalled e very time you select the same source and will be shown on the displa y .
23 ENGLISH Storing your own sound adjustments Y ou can adjust the sound modes (BEA T , SOFT , POP) to your pref erence and store your own adjustments in memor y . • There is a time limit in doing the follo wing procedure. If the setting is canceled before you finish, star t from step 1 again.
24 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H, ” “CLOCK M, ” “SCM LINK, ” “LEVEL ”,“SCROLL ” or “T AG DISP” appears on the display . 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “CLOCK H (hour)” if not sho wn on the display .
25 ENGLISH Canceling Advanced SCM —SCM LINK Y ou can cancel the Advanced SCM (Sound Control Memor y), and unlink the sound modes and the playbac k sources. When shipped from the factory , a different sound mode can be stored in memor y f or each source so that you can change the sound modes simply by changing the sources.

28 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs and CD-Rs. • Y ou can also play back y our original CD-Rs (Recordable) and CD-R Ws (Rewritable) either in audio CD f or mat or in MP3 f or mat.
29 ENGLISH What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points before calling a service center . Remedies Inser t the disc correctly . Stop pla yback while driving on rough roads. Change the disc. Check the cords and connections.
30 ENGLISH MP3 Playback Symptoms • Disc cannot be play ed back. • Files skip, or 00’00” appears and the playbac k stops. • Noise is generated. • A longer readout time is required (“CHECK” keeps flashing on the displa y). • Files cannot be play ed back as you ha ve intended them to play .
