Getting Started 8 - EN How to Read This Manual This manual details how to operate the TMI-M990 and the supplied remote control RUE-4199. Basic Operation 16 - EN Switching the Source 1 Press V .SEL/DISP .OFF . Each press of the button will cycle through the modes as follows: • AUX-1, 2, 3 is only displayed when A UX IN 1, 2, 3 SIG.
9 - EN Using Face Cover An anti-theft face cov er is provided with the TMI-M990. Put the face cov er onto the TMI-M990 when you leav e the vehicle. Be sure to remove the anti-theft f ace cover when you dri ve.
Basic Operation 10 - EN 2 Press the reset s witch with the tip of a pen. • T o switch off the power on an IONBUS compatible head unit when it is connected: When the head unit power is switched of f, the TMI-M990 power is also s witc hed of f. The power cannot be switched of f from the TMI-M990.
11 - EN 2 Press and hold V .SEL/DISP .OFF f or at least 2 seconds to turn off the unit. • The unit can be turned on by pressing any one of the b uttons V .SEL/DISP . OFF , VISU AL EQ or R.SEL/WIDE. • The TMI-M990 dra ws minimal current even when its po wer switch is turned off.
Basic Operation 12 - EN Opening/Closing the Monitor 1 Press OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP . The unit beeps 3 times and raises (or lo wers) the monitor automatically . • The TMI-M990 is a precision de vice. W ith gentle handling, its unique capabilities can be enjoyed for a long time.
13 - EN Adjusting the Display Back and Forwards The monitor opening angle can be set in 2 positions. 1 Press and hold OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP for at least 2 seconds while the display is out.
Basic Operation 14 - EN Adjusting the Monitor V iewing Angle Adjust the monitor's angle for better visibility . 1 Press / TIL T and / TIL T to adjust the monitor's angle so the screen will be in the best viewing position. Pressing the buttons produces a beep and changes the screen angle between about 40 and 105 de- grees.
15 - EN Moving the Monitor to be Flat When you want to operate some function on the car (air conditioner , etc.) which is hidden by the raised monitor , use this function. 1 Press and hold /FLA T for at least 2 seconds . The monitor mov es to the flat position.
Basic Operation 16 - EN Switching the Source 1 Press V .SEL/DISP .OFF . Each press of the button will cycle through the modes as f ollows: • A UX-1, 2, 3 is only displayed when A UX IN 1, 2, 3 SIG. is ON. For details, refer to “ Setting the A UX Mode ” , page 44.
17 - EN Switching Display Modes 1 Press and hold R.SEL/WIDE f or at least 2 seconds in the visual source. Each press changes the displa y modes as follows: In Normal mode, the monitor displays a normal picture at the center of the screen with a v er tical blac k band at each side.
Basic Operation 18 - EN TITLE Initial System Start- up T urning Po wer On or Off Opening/Closing the Monitor Description When reset, the stored contents are lost. P erform storage and adjustment one more time. If you reset when the display is open, then the display is automatically closed.
19 - EN Related page Description If the monitor touches an obstacle while the angle is being adjusted, the unit stops the screen immediately . Should this happen, remov e the obstacle and press / TIL T or / TIL T again. The screen color will vary when viewed at certain angles.
Other Useful Featur es 20 - EN About VISUAL EQ TM Use VISUAL EQ to create the best ima ge b y compensating for the ambient light conditions, then store your settings on the TMI-M990. 1 Select VISU AL EQ ON mode by pressing VISUAL EQ . VISUAL EQ ON OFF VISU AL EQ OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP /TIL T /TIL T V .
21 - EN 2 Press and hold VISUAL EQ f or at least 2 seconds. The VISU AL EQ SETUP screen is display ed, and v ar ious VISU AL EQ settings can be made. <Example of VISU AL EQ SETUP screen> 3 T o e xit VISU AL EQ SETUP , press and hold VISUAL EQ f or more than 2 seconds.
Other Useful Featur es 22 - EN FLAT SOFT NIGHT MOVIE SHARP USER1/2 HIGH CONTRAST • When VISUAL EQ is ON, the selected VISUAL EQ property name is displayed. (See page 20) •“ OFF ” is set on this unit when the power is f irst turned on. Press VISU AL EQ to display “ FLA T ” .
23 - EN Adjusting and Storing VISUAL EQ TM Y ou can store up to two of your image adjustments. The picture brightness, color , tint, contrast and sharpness can be adjusted. 1 Press VISUAL EQ to select the VISUAL EQ ON mode. • When VISU AL EQ is ON, the selected VISU AL EQ property name is displayed.
Other Useful Featur es 24 - EN 3 Press OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP or VISUAL EQ , and select an item to adjust from BRIGHT , COLOR, TINT , CONTRAST , SHARPNESS. When you press OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP , you mov e to the ne xt item, press VISU AL EQ to mo ve to the pre vious item.
25 - EN 8 Press V .SEL/DISP .OFF . The stored adjustments are applied to the current video image. 9 After setting, press and hold VISUAL EQ f or at least 2 seconds. The screen returns to the previous one. • T o recall the stored adjustment values, see “ Selecting the VISU AL EQ TM Property ” (page 21).
Other Useful Featur es 26 - EN About REAR SELECT OR W ith a r ear monitor connected to the TMI-M990, its adjustments may be set using the REAR SELECTOR screen. The follo wing ste ps 1 to 4 are common operations for the REAR SELECTOR screen. Refer to each section for details.

Other Useful Featur es 28 - EN Rear Entertainment Function The rear entertainment function independently routes different sources to the front and the rear of the car . For example, while listening to the radio or other audio source in the fr ont, DVD can be enjoyed in the rear with the optional rear monitor and headphones.
29 - EN Switching the Function of the Remote Sensor The remote sensors of the external unit (monitor , etc.), can be selected for Remote control operation from the external unit. Setting item: REM.CON IN Setting content: FRONT , REAR-1, REAR-2 FRONT : The remote control sensor on the main unit is enabled.
Other Useful Featur es 30 - EN Switching the V isual Source Only (Simultaneous Function) When an IONBUS compatible head unit is connected, you can watch the video portion of another source while listening to the current source. On the TMI-M990, you can wa tch video from the AUX or N A VI.

Other Useful Featur es 32 - EN TITLE Adjusting and Storing VISU AL EQ TM About REAR SELECT OR Black out Mode On and Off Description Adjusting and storing of VISU AL EQ can also be made from the setup . The procedure is below . For more details , see the General Setup Operation .
33 - EN Setup About the Setup There are a number of setup functions av ailable in the TMI-M990. • For e xample, a sound is made when a switch is pressed, or a beep sound can be set ON/OFF when a command is receiv ed. In this way , you can change your preferred settings.
Setup 34 - EN General Setup Operation T o display the Setup screen: T o watch a video source, your vehicle must be parked with the ignition k ey in the ACC or ON position. T o do this, follow the procedure belo w . 1. Bring your vehicle to a complete stop at a safe loca tion.

Setup 36 - EN Adjusting Brightness Setting item: BRIGHT Setting content: –15 ~ +15 1 Adjust the brightness from – 15 to +15 by pressing / TIL T or / TIL T . Adjusting Color of Picture Setting item: COLOR Setting content: –15 ~ +15 1 Adjust the color from – 15 to +15 by pressing / TIL T or / TIL T .
37 - EN Adjusting T int of Picture Setting item: TINT Setting content: G15 ~ R15 1 Adjust the tint from G15 to R15 by pressing / TIL T or / TIL T . • Tint adjustment cannot be made if a Na vigation system with the RGB feature is connected. Adjusting Display Contrast Y ou can adjust the display contrast for better visibility .
Setup 38 - EN Setting the Illumination Brightness When the lights are switched on at night etc., the switch and Input indicator brightness of the TMI- M990 can be dimmed.
39 - EN Adjusting the Illumination Level The switch and Input indicator brightness of the TMI-M990 can be adjusted on the TMI-M990. For example, used when slighly adjusting the brightness while dri ving at night etc.
Setup 40 - EN Selecting the Monitor Opening Angle Setting item: SLIDE Setting content: B ACK/FR ONT • For details, see “ Adjusting the Display Back and Forwards ” , page 13. Adjusting the Monitor Viewing Angle Setting item: TIL T Setting content: 1 ~ 10 1 Press / TIL T or / TIL T and adjust to an angle (10 lev els) that is easily view able.
41 - EN Sound (Beep) Guide Function Setting item: BEEP Setting content: ON/OFF ON: Activ ate the Sound Guide mode. OFF: Deactiv ate the Sound Guide mode.
Setup 42 - EN VISU AL EQ OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP /TIL T /TIL T BAND/ SETUP /O/C /FLA T Navigation Audio Interruption V olume Adjustment Y ou can adjust the volume level of the v oice guidance. Setting item: NA VI MIX LEVEL Setting content: + 7 (OFF , +1~+15) • Can only be set when an IONBUS compatible head unit is connected.
43 - EN AUX IN/S-IN SETUP The following steps 1 to 6 are for the standar d A UX IN/S-IN setup. For details on the setup item details, see each setting item. < AUX IN/S-IN setup standard operation > 1 Press and hold OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP for at least 2 seconds.
Setup 44 - EN 4 Press VISUAL EQ or OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP , and select the pref erred item setting. When you press OPEN/CLOSE / SETUP , you mov e to the ne xt item, press VISU AL EQ to mo ve to the pre vious item. 5 Change the setting by pressing / TIL T or / TIL T .
45 - EN Setting the S-IN Mode Setting item: S-IN SIG. Setting content: ON/OFF ON: Displa y S video output compatible ALPINE head unit source. OFF: Do not displa y S video output compatib le ALPINE head unit. • Set when connecting to a S video output compatible head unit.
TV (Optional) 46 - EN 1 2 3 4 5 TV Operation When connected with a TV unit (sold separately), you can use the remote control supplied with the TMI-M990 to operate the TV . Set the A UX N AME to TV . Ref er to (Setup “ Name External Equipment to Be Displayed (A UX) ” page 45).
47 - EN Switching the Source 1 Press SOURCE/POWER . 2 Press BAND in A UX mode, and change the A UX mode. Operation is performed from an ALPINE IONBUS compatible head unit.
48 - EN Operating fr om the Head Unit Operating the Head Unit with the Remote Control The main unit can be operated with the remote control supplied with the head unit. • Remote control operation list R UE-4196 * V alid when connected with a TV unit (sold separately).
49 - EN In Case of Difficulty If you encounter a problem, please turn the power of f, then on again. If the unit is still not functioning normally , please re view the items in the following chec klist. This guide will help you isolate the problem if the unit is at fault.

53 - EN Installation Installing the Monitor Installation Location Before deciding on the mounting location, check that opening and closing the display will not hamper gear shifting in that position. • Install at an angle of within 30 degrees from the horizontal.
